A lovely neighbourhood place with delicious wine and food. Standouts were the kangaroo tartare and the creamy buttery sauce of the pork loin. The bottle of chardonnay from Tassie was also a banger. Would be even better if some dishes had a bit more food, but that’s just because I’m a pig.
I loved dining at Arthur because of the overall sensory experience that immerses you for the entire 2 hours you are dining. The venue itself is beautiful and the owners have kept the aesthetic of the restaurant close to its Victorian heritage. This makes the space feel warm and inviting, like a family members home. This comforting intrinsic quality is carried through in the way food is prepared in front of diners, and how food is presented in a shared dining approach where multiple dishes are made for enjoying with the company of friends. The plates of food are continuous and by plate number 11 you feel full and walk away almost feeling guilty for not helping to wash up dishes. Thanks for creating a home-away from-home space. I will be back soon to drink more Australian wine off your winelist and try new dishes.
Arrived with the wrong booking date and a last minute vegan request, there was one table left and they where kind enough to give it to us. The food is creative and best enjoyed in a group. The decor in the venue is also unusual and makes for a nice evening.
Arthur is a newly opened restaurant in Surry Hills.I was impressed by the excellent service and wonderful food, which was matched with Australian wine. The kangaroo tartare was delicious. I have never had kangaroo meat like that before it was so tender and juicy. I would highly recommend Arthur for special dates or as a cool place to chill with friends.
