I have read about this uber funky place and was very excited to check out this ultra funky fried chicken est. When you walk in, you feel as though you’ve walked into some hip hop bar. It’s fun indeed. The food:I was a little disappointed with the food, as it didn’t live up to the hype. The fried chicken was nothing special, the burger was also average. Though, in their defense, this place is great for a drink or two.I really enjoyed their lychee slushie type thing.
Have had my fair share of buttermilk fried chicken and I can’t help but feel that Butter is a bit overhyped and very overpriced. Sure the sneaker concept is cool and all but that shouldn’t justify charging a premium on the food. For the chicken, batter is pretty damn good, crunchy and not overly thick, but meat is not the juciest on the inside. There is very little seasoning on the outside, which makes it quite plain. They have some decent sauces but I find myself using way too much sauce to make up for the lack of seasoning.Burgers seem reasonably priced until you see the size, pretty much 3 biters for me. OG sandwich is okay but plenty of good fried chicken burgers around Sydney.Find myself spending ~$30pp to be full, makes it extra hard to justify returning for the mediocre fried chicken.
Decided to go there as hubby read it was one of the best places to have chicken wings… So we did.The menu is pretty short, and if you are a fried chicken kind of person I guess is worth the try, but for me there is nothing really special about it, and everything tasted the same as the batter was the same for the wings, chicken, cheezus sandwich and haloumi chips.
After my belle’s hot chicken experience i wanted to try the other good fried chicken in surry hills….and I enjoyed it so much!We got the Grand master box with the fried chicken option(not the sandwich). The wiing is the best of course, but the tenderloin and the thigh are not bad either. The Chicken itself has a slight flavour, but the crispy batter is king. Not oily at all.Chips are just okay, it wasn’t ‘just came out from fryer’ and pickles are just salt and vinegar flavour, but the main chicken was great and so we are happy. If you are signed up for shop small with amex (Nov18), you will get reward as well 😉
the chicken sandwich and cheezus sandwich – $12.5 each7.5/10 In my opinion both of them tastewise both are quite the same. Its just the chicken sandwich doesnt have the cheese and not as complete as the cheezus burger. The chicken was soo tender yet crispy on the outside. The bun was soft and buttery. But it has a bit spicy kick on both of the burger which I like but those of you who doesnt like spicy wont like it. grabandbites.com
