Amazing ambience and taiyaki w ice cream Must order: king prawn guacamole, gyoza, red bean taiyaki.Tbh, i dont really like their ramen flavours (ordered Kogashi Miso), but i guess its just a personal choice.
Gogyo originates from the same creators of the well known ramen chain Ippudo, that graces the streets of Surry Hills with its own unique menu of side dishes and ramen – their specialty is a must try for any ramen fan! This specialty is Kogashi (charred!) ramen which is concocted by purposefully BURNING ladlefuls of lard in a wok over high heat, then adding miso paste or a special soy base, followed by broth. What you end up with is this delightfully intriguing thick black soup with a unique smokey flavour. We tried the Kogash miso ($18) and personally, I wasnt amazed by the taste (perhaps Im more of a white tonkotsu traditionalist) but the flavours were definitely very interesting and different. Would recommend to try this innovation at least once! The Crackling Piggy Roll ($6) was also yummy with a soft milk bun (yum) and the Karaage Chicken was pretty standard ($16 for 6pc). Id love to come back and try their other ramen.Go, go, go Gogyo!
After hearing so many good ratings about the kogashi miso ramen and being recommended it my friends, I finally got around to trying it. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed to find that I did not like the charred flavouring at all. The side dishes however were nice (gyoza and chicken).
I really enjoyed gogyo, the service was prompt and the food came quickly. The wagyu spring roll and the crackling piggy roll were amazing 4.5/5! Would highly recommend. The rock potatoes were crispy and the mayo on top was a good mix. The nasu dengaku was super crispy on the outside but succulent on the inside. The wagyu was so tender and the mushrooms were flavored so well. The only thing I didnt like was the ramen we ordered. It was ok but nothing like the other dishes. We tried the kagashi miso as recommended by the waiter but it was mainly just noodles with 2 pieces of pork. Overall a great place and I will be back!
Amazing ramen! One of my favourite spots in Sydney perhaps only rivalled by Ippudo. The tonkatsu broth was full of flavour and really enjoyed the ambience and customer service. Would recommend and will be back to try out the other ones!
Amazing place, it’s a fusion between a ramen bar and a modern bar, has a very warm and inviting ambiance and very friendly staff. We tried a combination of the Kogashi Miso, Kogashi Shoyu and Tonkotsu Modern. The charred base was wonderful and it taste like nothing we’ve ever tried before. The Kogashi Miso is much thicker and very rich, and for most of us it ends up a little too rich for just one person have. The Kogashi Shoyu is much lighter but still have the same base of the charred taste, so that’s what we prefer in the end. I recommend sharing the Kogashi Miso between a few people, and ordering other things in the menu along with it. Their gyoza is also handmade and is very delicious, recommended. marcsmellow.com
Gogyo is a relatively new opening in Surry Hills by the founder and mastermind of Ippudo Shigemi Kawahara, with a menu that really does surprise. I was pretty excited to try out the food here, considering just how much I enjoy ramen and in particular the ramen at Ippudo, but I have to mention it was the charred miso ramen that caught my immediate attention on the menu. This is probably the biggest surprise you would see here – why would someone deliberately burn the soup and serve it up?
