I came right before closing time for take away coffee.Im not sure if they are still serving, but the staffs are so friendly and told me that they are closing in 10, no hurry… Coffee is good to my liking, and this place just another whole in the wall cafe that serving decent coffee around the neighborhood.
Now here is a coffee that will wake you up! A strong hit of caffeine that cuts through the milk like a knife. Cute little hole in the wall in the back streets of Surry Hills to give you a hipster feeling but without the pretension. Staff are friendly and everyone was treated likea regular, with a smile and instead of shouting out your order/name, they hand everyone their coffee personally. Great touch. The only downside is that it’s cash only – only ATM is around the corner in a convenience store that charges a withdrawal fee. If you don’t mind remembering your coins, then definitely adventure into the back streets and grab a cup here!

Of course silly me, I should have checked the map.Kwila is a cute little cafe, probably more suitable for takeaway coffee and sweets. Great if you were a vegan or vegetarian, their simple offerings seemed to be all vegetarian, at least today they were. We turned up at 11:30am based on the great reviews on Google and here. Their vegan pies and two salads (no meat) on offer today were not ready. We were told a 10 minutes wait for the pumpkin soup and toast. We didn’t mind waiting while having our coffee. We were actually after something a little more substantial but that will do for now as we were feeling cold and hungry.They do have a small table at the back in the corner. Two persons can sit up at the corner wall sides. The rest are a few low wooden cubes along the narrow wall. And two stools at the front window.The people were friendly, the coffee were great, probably one of the best tasting in Sydney. The homemade pumpkin soup was also tasty, I like the fact that no cream were added. I guess they used spices like cumin and turmeric, there were also roasted pumpkin seeds. It was a great health choice.I would come again for their coffee and soup if I happened to be around this area but I probably won’t make a special trip like today.
Can’t say I’ve ever had a bad experience. This is my hub for a coffee during work. The staff are always welcoming, and the coffee – amazing! Couldn’t find a better place in Surry
Great little cafe. The coffee is good, very good. It is cash only so bring your $$. Theres a convenience store around the corner with an ATM. Friendly service. Food looks healthy 🙂
Kwila is the best. Lovely coffee, great people and a great window seat. Food is excellent too – limited choice, which saves the pain of making decisions.
Best coffee I’ve had in Sydney. I love this new little place, AMAZING coffees, yet to try the food but it looks delicious too. Very friendly staff, I’ve definitely found my new local 🙂
