Booked a table here using a Dimmi discount but found all the dishes to be underwhelming. Quite bland for Thai food. The restaurant itself and service were alright.
All things yum! We had the 8 course set menu which highlighted all the signature dishes. Great balance of sweet and savoury flavours. Will defiantly be back!
We were celebrating my husbands birthday for dinner and even on a Sunday, the restaurant was very busy. The two staff who was looking after my section of the restaurant was run off their feet trying to juggle so many diners and their requests. But they were calm and was apologetic with the wait times. The last time I dined here was over 5 years ago, so it really wanted to see if anything had changed. They have highchairs and kids menu which I didnt know (as it wasnt on their website so I actually brought food for my 5 year old as i read that most of their dishes have spice in them. He was hungry so shared the fried rice with his cousin (kids menu) which he didnt mind. We all enjoyed the fishnet (without peanuts as husband is allergic), fried snapper was delicious, so crispy without being oily and you can even eat the thin bones! Caramelised pork hock was also a favourite, its sweetness cut through by then cucumber pickle that we ordered as a side. The last dish we shared was the beef brisket curry with jasmine rice for the table along with some Asian greens. We were all so full but we wanted to try some of their desserts. At this stage, the restaurants was a full house so it was hard to get staffs attention, but it did give us some time to digest. My husband tried the Longrain special with black sticky rice which is his style of dessert but I preferred the taro pudding (as I love taro) with praline cashew ice cream. With Dimmi special, it was excellent value and its great to see that after so many years, Longrain has still maintained their high quality and standards.
One of our favourite restaurants for tasty Asian food. The restaurant is beautifully designed with round tables so you can easily have a conversation with everyone at your table. The menu is also great with many options. We definitely recommend the egg net dish!
| Surry Hills | Long Grain | Had the pleasure of visiting this high end thai-western fusion cuisine restaurant for my bday dinner . tucked away on commonwealth street. They have some great fusion dishes and a lovely low light dining atmosphere here… Banquet meals -Betal Leaf – Delicious smoked trout, green mango, Cashew Nuts and Trout roe..Massaman Potato Spring Rolls – this one is my fav. It has pickles, peas with Smoky siracha..Eggnet – Filled with Pork, Prawns, peanuts and cucumber relish..Green Curry – Braised beef brisket, thai eggplant and baby corn.Caramalised Pork Hock – five spices and chilli vinegar..Black Sticky Rice – young coconut jelly, vanilla tapioca and sorbet.Thank you @longrainrestaurant for a perfect dining experience.
It was an interesting seating layout as everyone is seated on a long communal table. Awesome food, I highly recommend the pork hocks and eggnet salad. Very nice ambience and good service. A bit hard to get the attention of staff sometimes though.
Came here for dinner while in Sydney with a couple of colleagues. I havent been to the one in Melb so Im not sure what to expect. The dishes are designed to be shared like most Asian restaurant. So we shared 3 entrees, my favourite is the beef skewers, with spicy sauce. For main I had the red curry salmon which is a large portion. We also ended up sharing the main. There were pork belly and green curry and jasmine rice. All are delicious! We didnt stop there and had dessert after. I had the black sticky rice and mango. It was delicious, reminded me of my childhood. They cooked the back sticky rice perfectly, chewy but still kept its texture but not crunchy. Trust me this is not easy to make. Would love to try the one in Melb one day as a comparison.
