Dear Mica,Your crab and egg croissant is a saving grace today, so thats why you deserved 3 stars. This is what happened today brunch.Place: Right in the middle of Surry Hills precinct and love the simple, yet elegant.Service:Well this is the problem. I think you are understaffed today and didnt expecting a big rushed for brunch. When we came, around 11.15 am, theres party of 3, and party of 6 waiting in from of us, part of 3 adults and 2 kiddies. This party of 3 attended and give the big table that can for those 6 people or even us. Male wait staff is less experienced when dealing with customer, he should optimized to put bums on sit and allocated table accordingly to maximize the cafe revenue. After 10 minutes waited, party of 6 left, and 40 minutes after we arrived, finally we have our table ready. Yay! Put out order right away, when we are ordering items then wait staff told us the items what we wanted is 86d/out of stock/sold out… oh never mind, then we are ordering, ham&cheese croissant for my niece, crab and egg omelet for my self and my cousine is sharing lava toast. In about 5-10 when we are waiting( meanwhile he is serving the very pushy customer who sat closer to kitchen counter) then the one and only male wait staff came in and told us lava toast also finished…. For my observation, the barista today could help and run the food or cleaning up table and resetting (multi tasking) since he doesnt have lots of coffee order and help this poor wait staff who is working nonstop up and down.Food & Drink:Start with:Piccolo, cappuccino and iced latte. My piccolo was alright. At the end my cousine ordered avocado on toast with poached eggs and extra crab salad on the side.( since the option only that or one-for all left for today and she doesnt feel like granola bowl ) which I think its an overrated dish, im sorry to say that, its not cheap either, $16Again, the side crab salad that additional $8 is never put on the plate, again waited staff apologizing for it, and we dont wanted to wait, and carry on.Ham and Cheese croissant looks good, even though I didnt try it.The crab and egg is the saving grace, soft, delicate, buttery egg and crab meat, and corn mixture top with fish roe.If my palate is picking up flavour right, there is also a dash of sesame oil in there that wasnt mention on the menu description. Its a nice twist that bring the whole dish together.Anyway, if we knew before and after weve waited 40 minutes for table and only have 3-4 menus item to choose from, I would come back next time and have a better experience brunch.Still, thanking you guys for opening today and serving us brunch even though hour is short, until 12.30 pm.Wish you and your team Happy New Year!
A trendy fusion cafe with good coffee and food menu. I had the cold drip coffee to start. For the food, I tried 3 dishes and loved all 3. The tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) bento box was delicious and I enjoyed everything inside, even the cabbage and flavoured rice. The standout one to try is the eggs benedict with fried bao and I added a side of crab salad. The fried bun is so crispy and I havent had this on a breakfast menu anywhere else. The crab salad is made with a mix of fresh crab meat and was really nice! I couldnt leave without trying their signature Matcha French toast, thick cut toast with a liquid green tea center- its popular for a good reason. I enjoyed my visit and would come back again.
Eggs Bene on Fried Bao : Great A Bowl : Great Berry Mint Crush : Amazing Coffee : Amazing Love the idea of the Eggs Benedict on the fried bao. It was definitely something different and very tasty. Loved the A Bowl dish too. Perfectly cooked chicken with a very fragrant dashi broth. Drinks were outstanding. The Berry Mint Crush was ordered off menu and it was so refreshing to drink on a really hot day. Coffee was the magical drug I needed. It was strong, bold and very comforting.
love their ticketing system!! You grab a number and they will text u as soon as the seats are available. Very friendly staff!! Will definitely come back to try the other dishes
Very unique combination of familiar ingredients which resulted in strangely satisfying flavor. We were impressed with the fried bao benedict
Came as a guest. Interesting menu its definitely different but in a good way. Salted Egg Yolk tonkatsu bento is a good idea! I like it in potato crisps and I continue liking this unique flavour. Lobster congee had plenty of lobster pieces. Matcha French lava toast is a instagrammers dream photo! Staff were friendly and if you want your taste buds to try something different then this is the place!
This is my first time visiting japanese-modern cafe. I really enjoyed all the meals that been served. My fave one is the crab and egg croissant and as a complimentary of the day, I got a coming up fresh drink What a day!!! You guys, have to heading to here next month and grab this! It was made fresh from Strawberry pure, japanese lemonade and strawberry fruit. Great food great place What a delightful dining experience guess I wont resist to come back.
