One of the best Japanese fine dining restaurants Ive been to along with Sokyo and Sake. Highly recommended and each dish was just as impeccable as the next. This food was shared with a group of 5 of us. Apologies for the quality of the images, the lighting was quite dim. Small dishes:-Hiramasa no usuzukuri ~ sliced kingfish, yuzu-truffle, chives-Tai no sashimi to karikari tori ~ thinly sliced wild snapper, truffle oil, pork crackling -Gyu niku gyoza ~ wagyu beef gyoza, white-soy mustard, shiso Toko rolls:-Pirikara aburizake to avocado maki ~ spicy seared salmon, avocado, cucumber, squid ink tenkasu -Spider maki ~ soft-shell crab, wasabi mayonnaise, rock chives Seafood:-Hotate no jalapeo amazu zoe ~ robata grilled scallops, sweet pickled apple, jalapeo garlic -Hata no saikyo yaki ~ miso black cod, seasonal pickles Meat: -Amiyaki ro-is niku no wafu sauce ~ scotch fillet steak, wafu sauce, garlic chips janicexrose.wordpress.com

Amazing food but very small serving sizes! We ordered the following:- kingfish ceviche 5/5 so fresh and beautiful – tuna nigiri 5/5 probably the best I’ve had!- salmon nigiri 5/5- Moreton bay bug sushi 4/5 I don’t think it showcased the flavour of the bug enough – tuna sushi 5/5 this was my favourite sushi- prawn tempura 4.5/5 tasty sauce and large prawns The food is all incredible but I left here feeling hungry! Prepare to really splash out, we spent $75 each with no alcohol or drinks and were still hungry after

For anyone that is a fan of amazing Japanese food and stunning service, this is the restaurant for you! I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and appreciated how beautiful the restaurant was. The wine menu was fantastic and it is certainly the best Japanese food Ive ever had.

Toko is a nice Japanese restaurant situated in Surry Hills. It offers izakaya styled dining experience. They serve delicious food and has nice selection of sake. It was an enjoyable dining experience.

Food wasnt too bad.enjoyed the salmon tartare, crab roll, and pork belly. Beef tatami was ok… Sushi was average sushi.. BUT aestheticly pleasing restaurant. Some quality in the decor and set up.

Really wanted to eat Japanese for lunch and this place caught our attention. The decor and atmosphere of this place is spot on. The open kitchen is great if you want to watch the sushi chefs in action, plating and cutting up your sashimi. First up, we ordered the gyuniku no tataki – seared beef, pickled onions, mizuna and garlic chips. Tataki is usually a hit or miss for me. This one was a miss. The beef was tough. The flavours/sauce was memorable or didnt one up the dish in any way. Wasnt a good start to our meal unfortunately. What kind of people would we be if we went to a Japanese restaurant and not order any sushi and nigiri. We decided to order the toko nigiri which was a chefs selection of nigiri sushi (7 pieces). I halved them all with my partner so I could have a try of everything. My favourite was of course the salmon. The sashimi were all fresh and melted in your mouth. We also ordered the spider maki rolls – soft shell crab, wasabi mayonnaise and rock chives, really delicious and easy to eat! My favourite dish of the meal was the sake no miso taru taru – salmon tartare, wasabi miso and nori rice crackers. The salmon was flavoursome and I loved this idea of the nori rice crackers which dissolved in your mouth. I really enjoyed this dish! My partner loved it as well but some of his nori crackers were rock hard and he had to spit some of it out due to it being inedible. Last dish was the butabara bara to kojichan miso – double cooked pork belly, spicy Korean miso (skewers). The pork belly was so succulent and juicy. It was screaming fat, but boy was it delicious. It was so tender and didnt need much effort to chew or to rip off the skewer. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. Food was very fresh! Service was nice and quick and great atmosphere.

The sushi was spectacular. Loved the miso eggplant and the chill rhubarb crumble dessert was refreshing and unique. The chocolate and hazelnut fondant was another highlight. The pork ribs were nice but a bit too sweet. The food was great but the service wasnt great. It was really hard to get any waiters attention, our water glasses were constantly left empty but the food came in reasonable time.
