Great coffee, terrible burek. I tried in quick succession the Circular Quay original and then the new Alexandria branch. Both had the same coffee – super creamy but rich, hot, strong and reasonably priced. The only good coffee I’ve found at Circular Quay so far, so I’ll return for that but not for the food. There was a range of good-looking and reasonably-priced sandwiches but I got excited by the burek only to be horribly disappointed. At the Circular Quay store, you could get 1/6th of a wheel for $6 – this compares to 1/4 in Rockdale but the real problem was the burek itself. It was so chewy, with thick chewy layers of pastry and a hard shell, rather than the flaky pastry in Rockdale. It had obviously been cold for a long time and was poorly reheated (possibly in a microwave) so it was both cold and chewy. I didn’t eat much of it. The Alexandria branch did not have the full burek, just a version that was a small stick of very chewy pastry, which did not seem good value for $3.50.
