Food was fine and an interesting choice of cuisine at a pub.Ambience is nothing to complain about, with the usual CBD pub vibe. Multiple stories works in favour of this bistro, as you can always head upstairs or downstairs to traditionally more pub-like areas of the place. Most notably about our visit was the cash-only limitation and the quality of the service. The servers barely spoke English and couldn’t take an order. However, they were more than happy to get their hands on our money and then charge extra for rice or noodles, as though the price of the expensive-enough mains wouldn’t cover them. Upon failing to adequately take our order, the servers seemingly didn’t understand that people wouldn’t dine here after having to repeat and clarify their order half a dozen times and then to be gobsmacked about having to pay for rice or noodles. One of our mates ended up persisting and paid extra, successfully ordering a dish that seemed ok. Pretty presentation but ingredients don’t look all that good and the meat and veg looked worse for wear. Still, pretty presentation.

Sweeney’s is a bit of a standard bar in the city, with its very windy stairs and small rooftop area. I really love this rooftop, but the bar itself is okay. I find the decor very outdated and dusty, but at the same time it is part of the charm of the place. Service is friendly, but the cash only restriction when buying food is a real bummer. Cocktails here are usually tasty, and often they are for $10, but it sort of depends on the day in regards to the quality. The thai food served in the bar is a bit confusing, yes, but Sweeney’s is still a bit of a mid-week go to for me. theminiaturelife.com

Food and drink-wise, it’s pretty standard for a bar, what makes it stand out is its vintage, especially given it’s in the CBD (I think it was originally an old bank?). Rooftop area is also a great area to socialise.

Been here a few times, won meat trays on Fridays and participated in Trivia on Wednesdays. Very good place to meet up with friends and have a good time. The food menu is a mix between traditional pub food and Thai. Nothing to write home about but good enough to satisfy your hunger. The food prices are reasonable, most Dishes are about $15-$20. Staff are always friendly and helpful. yumspot.net

Really nice rooftop bar! Happy hour gets pretty busy on a Friday afternoon, but still a really great place to get a few drinks. $5 spirits from 5-7 and they have great $10 summer cocktails at the moment. Staff are super friendly too! Great place.

Food is well priced. A selection of you normal pub grub as well as a full Thai menu. Most meals around $12-15 and the serving sizes are fair. Can’t go wrong with good food at an awesome price in the heart of the Sydney CBD. An awesome vibe inside, a old rustic original pub which is great to see in Sydney.

I D O N T U N D E R S T A N D I don’t understand a Thai restaurant at a pub. After getting too drunk to remember how to eat, all I wanted were some greasy chips, maybe a schnitty. Thai is too heavy for a drunk stomach, specially after happy hour on the roof top (which is the only reason I didn’t rate 0) I love the pub feel. Sweeny’s has the ‘seedy pub vibe’ just right. The food however, meh.
