Tucked behind the Martin Place it is in the prime Sydney location. We were both told no chicken avocado sandwich and had get smoked salmon instead, which was a tad disappointing as it happened few minutes after order taking. The place gets a 5 for ambience and location but less than 3 for energy–it needs little oomph, which was missing.
The ladies at maximus are stars of cafe service. With a wonderful open setting within the historic general post office building maximus cafe works for me as a quick stop over our convenient spot for a coffee meeting any day
The customer service here is really poor. I ordered my food separately to the person I was eating with, so I could be reimbursed for my meal by my work. When it came to pay I asked if we could have separate receipts because we didn’t order together and they refused to give this to us. After I explained that I really needed my own receipt they finally let me pay separately. They told me that it was a massive inconvenience to them to split bills, which I understand, but they were really rude about it and I felt pretty uncomfortable. Food and coffee is good but if you plan on inconveniencing them then you might be better off going somewhere else.
Ugh my coffee was watery. This place is best left for business meetings not for food. Anything inside the GPO is easy on the eye hence feels a little impressive. The table service is dressed to impress and are lovely. The breakfast menu has changed its not appealing… just toast, bland toasties and a couple of bakery options. Disappointed I defaulted to a Pear & Raspberry bread, hard to complain about cake for breakfast 🙂 It was served without a fork! I hope that was a mistake and not the norm as the business suits that frequent here wouldn’t eat it with their fingers in front of clients!!!
