Outstanding refined & delicate dim sum. Prices are higher than others but its all worth for this Asian fusion cuisine with impeccable restaurant service.

I simply loved all the dim sum dishes we ordered, they were all bursting with flavours. The Wagyu & truffle puff is a must try. Tender wagyu beef pieces mixed with black truffle wrapped with layers of flaky pastries. It takes a lot of skill to make those layers perfect.

I couldve given a 5 star rating but one dish was below par, it was the Steamed Scarlet prawns. I had high expectations on that dish since my last experience with Scarlet prawns was fantastic. I had them in an Italian restaurant in Darlinghurst where they had cooked the prawns really well, the meat was springy & the head was full of creamy clayfish butter. To my disappointment, Mr Wongs was the opposite, the meat was soft, the head had only a small amount of yellow liquids coming out and it had a fishy taste. The worst thing is the prawns were soaked in a overly salty white soy dressing, it simply ruined the natural taste of the prawns. It was certainly not worth paying $38 for each prawn….

    Mr Wrong.
I honestly dont see how this restaurant gets a 4.7, in Melbourne only the very best get scores that high this would be 2.7 at best down south.

The lines and waiting I can handle as we are used to this.

But upon entering and navigating the menu being told by the wait staff that there is no xao long bao for dinner only lunches. If thats your signature dish why not serve it all night ???

Kung pao chicken was ok and the crab rice, the beef was of poor quality, and tasted old only masked by kilos of salt, xo duck soup very thick with cornflour, fried dumpling selection was uninspiring.

Asked waiter for some rice wine vinegar to mix with my soy to make dipping sauce and she looked at me as if I was asking for $50,000………

The inability to choose the banquet options for groups of less than 4 is ridiculous, and you end up with large quantities of food if you want to try a few different things.

I honestly would rate it inline with China Bar which can be found at many shopping centre food courts around Australia its that bad.

Pretty awesome dim sums and their cooked aubergine is delicious!! They do great espresso martinis, amaretto sours and their deep fried icecream is to die for… good service but a long waiting list when rocking up for a table! Expect to wait up to 2 hours.

I would recommend dining for yum cha dishes if you dont mind paying more. The peking duck was crispy, pancakes soft and generous amounts of hoisin sauce. King crab fried rice was probably my favourite out of everything. Wagyu steak was also soft and went well with the dipping sauce/crumbs. The eggplant wasnt as great as Id expected, it was a little too salty and strong in fish sauce taste.

Wow, oh wow! Loved it. We are tourists in Sydney and used google to find an asian restaurant near us. Up popped Mr Wong. It is hidden in a little laneway, next door to the dodgy pub we ate at the day before.
Service was exceptional, from the minute we opened the door, think lots of staff, men dressed in dinner suits, welcoming and always attentive.
The decor was fabulous, an old building with beautiful features.
Food was exceptional, we enjoyed the duck spring rolls with rich hoisin sauce, so delicious!
We next had the kung po chicken and fried rice. Both were beautiful and flavoursome.
We enjoyed the open kitchens, watching the staff pump out fresh as can be dumplings and every other dish. All so clean and fresh and inviting. Saw lots of poor little ducks strung up ready for cooking and in progress, but they were so delicious.
This place was so busy, it was insane, a constant stream of people coming in for a late lunch, every group welcomed in the same gracious manner.
Not cheap, but well worth the $$.
We will definitely return to try more of their offerings.

A really solid dining experience in a lovely setting. The dumplings were sensational, the pastry deliciously soft and light and the fillings bursting with flavour. Very popular and deservedly so.

Mr Wong! One of my favorite Chinese restaurants. The pork hock is to die for. The fried ice cream is also good but I prefer to get the butterscotch on the side because its too rich otherwise. The dumplings are good with a thin skin and the cheong fun is another fav! Although the stir fried broccoli was way too salty. When we sent it back they just gave us steam vegetables instead…
