This little restaurant serves a range of authentic Japanese meals. There is almost always a line with approximately 20 minutes wait. Along with taste, plating is also superb. Serving sizes are huge and are definitely filling. You can add on sides to your meal and choose entrees. The meals take up a lot of table space so if you are in a group, ask for a bigger table! Ill definitely come back again.

Felt a little underwhelmed here.Ordered the chicken namban set meal. Taste wise it was alright, chicken was crispy but it soon got soggy as it was sitting in a very watery poolof sauce. However Im not sure if it is worth the $18.80 as I think it is on the pricier side.

I would definitely recommend this place for a quick, cheap eat. The restaurant has a great ambience and serves delicious food. However the portions arent huge (you only get a little bit of meat) and there are also no vegetarian options at all apart from a tofu salad.

I love how efficient ordering system they have. You place your order through iPads, then pretty quickly you get your food. Staff is attentive and helpful. I was so curious about their eel dishes, we ended up ordering all kind of eel dish they have on their menu. Eel was ok, it wasnt as delicious as I would have hoped so, but it was somewhat decent. Their rice was tasty, texture and everything was perfect. I would recommend it for a quick service and decent food if short in time.

Reasonably priced sets. The rice is always my favourite part of visiting yayoi, cooked so perfectly. The only let down was the meat of my pork cutlet, it was very chewy and too fatty. Service was great and had a really lovely seat location.

Every time I pass by this place at the galleries, the line is unfailingly long. Yayoi Teishoku is a slightly upmarket Japanese restaurant, offering good food albeit at slightly steep prices. Yayoi is one of the few places that serve Unagi the Nagoya style ie served 3 ways (one of them being with a teapot of broth that you can pour into your rice). Their teishoku sets come with rice and a cold tofu side, with the option to upgrade to clam miso soup and/or fresh sashimi. For this rounds visit we waited 40 minutes for a table of 3, and despite being very busy on a Friday night the staff were attentive and polite. Ordered the special mix toji teishoku with unagi, crumbed prawn and pork Katsu drenched in egg and a delicious broth. Paid $31 for the meal along with a sashimi upgrade. While the meal was good, it was not worth queuing up 40 minutes for and I shall return to the restaurant only during off peak times.

Not too sure what the hype is with this place. It was super busy when we came but we only had to wait around 10minutes to get a seat. The way this place works is all by iPad. You order by iPad and if you require any help you also request via the iPad. After you order, it actually shows you the status of your order on the screen which I thought was pretty neat. The food came out and at first sight, looked super appetising and well presented. Partner got the oyako jyu and I got the hitsimbashi. We also got chicken karate as an entree. The oyako jyu tasted really delicious at first bite. This however, lost its spark and got really sickening to eat after a few more bites. Im not too sure what was wrong with it but the excitement died out quickly. The chicken karage also had a burnt taste to it which made it not that appetising. I wouldnt get it again. Although it was crispy, the flavour wasnt pleasant. The hitsumbashi had an interesting concept to it. Its eel served 3 ways. 1 by itself with rice, 1 with garnishes and another with soup. I was really curious about this one, but the gimmick died out pretty quickly. It tasted pretty yummy by itself but upon adding the garnishes and eating it in the soup, it just got worse with every change. The eel also was slightly too fishy in flavour for my liking. Overall, an interesting concept and I can see why people would want to try this place out. I probably wont be back though as the price point is definitely not worth it when you factor in the taste of the food.
