We really hoped to have a fantastic night out in the rocks and we were especially excited to eat good Italian food. Unfortunately this wonderful location is let down by very ordinary food.

I’ve walked past this quaint restaurant in the rocks several times . Went here on Anzac Day . Most places were very crowded and we were lucky to get a table here . We had the Mexicana pizza and tortellini with a white sauce with mushrooms . The food was alright . Not really spectacular . But loved the al fresco seating area , good service and excellent location at The Rocks.

Two of us discovered this restaurant via Groupon. We went on a Wednesday night and found the tables mostly full of patrons, which we perceived as a good sign. Unfortunately, two different staff members passed us without greeting so we had to approach someone to arrange a table. We made our order for a garden salad and bruschetta for entree and a pizza and pasta to share for our mains. Our garden salad arrived minutes after ordering – a nod to efficient prep before service. However we were left quite shocked at how punitive the salad was. For a non-Groupon patron, $20 would get you a few pieces of fruit and veg tossed with some greens and a hint of dressing. It was definitely not worth the money – it’s overall taste was average at best, though the fresh tomato did save it from being a total train wreck. 20 minutes passed before our bruschetta arrived. Luckily it was a fantastic dish and much better value compared to the salad before it. The tomato was really fresh and worked really nicely with the fragrant basil scattered on top. The bread which held it all together was also good quality. Our mains took another 15 or 20 minutes once we were done with our bruschetta, so we started to wonder if this was intentional as the peak service had died down by now. Maybe they don’t value Groupon business as highly as walk-in traffic at Caminetto? The first main to finally arrive was the pizza. We ordered the Caminetto Special. It had a nice, soft base and its toppings were pretty decent – salty olives, pepperoni, mushrooms and onion. There was probably too much onion though which was a bit sad as it took away from the other ingredients. Luckily we were sharing our mains as the pasta arrived when we were more than halfway through our pizza. A simple plate of pasta was placed in front of us – basically it was just tomato sauce with a hint of undercooked bacon, making for a very bland dish. One positive was the pasta as it was nice and al dente. Overall it was a pretty underwhelming experience at Caminetto. Prepare for a wait and don’t expect great value for money. eatventures.net

Very good Italian restaurant close to the Harbor Bridge. Came here for dinner with a few friends. Very lively place with good Italian food and service. You get a feel of Old Sydney around this place. Loved it.

Great location, nice feel and very Sydney but that’s where it ends. Poor quality food, Pre made drinks, I’m not even going to bother saying anymore.

Great location but menu could do with some modernising. The garden salad was a mess, it looked like something from the seventies. Pizza was average but nothing about it makes me want to return.
