Nice service, but they kind of try too hard with the food. I’ll explain:The meals cost about 50% higher than a normal cafe, so you maybe expect more. And they try to satisfy your expectation by making the meals all fancy and looking nice. But they try too hard and they forget about taste. I ordered a karaage chicken burger with chips. The chips were all fancy, different kinds of potato and carrots, but they weren’t actually chips. They weren’t deep fried. They just tasted like baked potatoes, which don’t go well with a burger. Furthermore, they gave me a bowl of sweet chutney to dip the chips in, which was absolutely bizarre. It ruined the meal. Aoli or even tomato sauce would have been better. The hamburger was ok, but it wasn’t memorable. My friend ordered fish (barramundi). It came with a fancy looking salad. But the dressing was bland. The fish was fresh but tasteless. There was nothing to put on the fish to improve the taste. The coffee was excellent. My friend ordered a lassie drink, but it was very small, only about 150ml. In total the meal plus drinks cost about $70, so we didn’t want to order another drink. The setting is kind of nice, but after the renovations the inside seating now feels cramped, with no window. It used to feel dark and mysterious. If you want to enjoy this cafe, I recommend you sit outside and just get coffees and cake. Forget about a meal. Anyway. I will probably go to the new quasi-cafe attached to the General Store next time. It has spacious outdoor seating and the food looks cheaper and less fancy.

A great place to escape for lunch or breakfast, Flutterby’s is a nice cafe in the tucked away village of Tyalgum. The food is nice, the staff are friendly and the restaurant is quirky like it’s set in the mid 50s-60s, and it adds a nice atmosphere to the place.

The cafe and company are warm and welcoming and the food is absolutely wonderful. A wonderful indoor area with a colorful edwardian presence and a piece full covered outdoor seating area. Let your troubles float away.
