For me, no trip to Wagga is complete without a trip to Mates Gully. I especially love Saturday’s as I can grab an amazing brunch, then do my fruit and veg shop at their farmers market – something that has fast become part of my weekly routine since I moved to the Riverina a month ago. The cafe is in a beautiful old heritage house which I believe has accommodation upstairs (I would love to stay one night!). They have an amazing concept with a menu which is full of local ingredients, and the fresh produce comes from their very own farm. The service is warm and friendly. If it’s a nice day help yourself to a magazine and take a seat on their lovely veranda. Last weekend I enjoyed their lamb sausage with poached eggs and veggies from their farm – a massive serving that I couldn’t stop eating as it was so yummy! A couple of weeks before I enjoyed the poached eggs and ham – a better choice if you plan on eating lunch or dinner that day as it’s much smaller than their sausage dish which left me full for the rest of the day! I don’t think you can go wrong at Mates Gully.

Despite pretty poor customer service from the moment we arrived for breakfast (with one other person seated in the restaurant) to when we left, the food was pretty tasty. However, when I pay around $12 for organic poached eggs on sourdough (plus greens) in the city, coming to Wagga and paying $18.50 for the same dish seems like a bit of a joke. I’d go back for the food but I’d hope the customer service had improved.
Everything was amazing! The food was fresh and delicious, the building was so beautiful and the location next to the lagoon was divine. A great start to a Saturday morning in Wagga. I had the omelette and there was so much flavour, I loved the crunchy greens inside and the sharpness of the Parmesan cheese. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Wagga Wagga!
Very unimpressed.. Gratuitously overpriced. The omelette tasted foul and undercooked. Go elsewhere.
