Beef mushroom and red wine pie had good flavour and tender meat pieces. Pork, thyme and garlic confit sausage roll was well-flavoured. Don’t get the fries next time but ask for aoili. Reasonable speedy service. Chai pot was too milky. Double choc brownie was nice. Choc bread and butter pudding could have more chocolate.

I love their pies and sausage rolls, quality pastry and ingredients used. Scones are also scrumptious and the chai is a must for anyone who loves chai. I always drop in to Stone when I visit Berrima.

The plan was to have a pie ‘face off’ with Gumnut but we ran out of meal windows on our 3 days! For Stones we selected the beef/red wine and the lamb/potato. Both had excellent tasty and well seasoned filling. The rosemary really added to the lamb pie and there was a deep richness to the beef. Pastry was however disappointing. Not sure what happened but there was a distinct lack of crispness. It wasn’t soggy as it held form all the way through but lack that crunch. The top was a little more to expectations but still not there. The case itself was impressively thin and even so it was a shame that we didn’t see the whole pie at its best. No doubt on the filling though and look forward to getting the next one closer to noon than 5pm next time.

My partner told me about this place as she had stopped there previously on her way back from Sydney to Canberra. So on Good Friday I decided to drive up and see for myself. We ordered bread and butter pudding and also I was persuaded to spend $16 on a chicken pie. The pudding arrived first and was sweet, buttery and enjoyable. However after some considerable wait the other food did not arrive. Having to leave we approached staff and we’re informed there was a glitch in the kitchen. We were never informed of this so subsequently, after a refund, left disappointed. Sorry if you are going to charge premium dollars then you have to offer appropriate service. It is unfortunate that, given this experience, I won’t bother to try it again.
