The staff member who sat us down was friendly and proactive. I took up on her offer of the PH Balance drink, it was helpful for my budding cold. She could rattle off useful updates on dishes and items available. I have perceived that this Austi Beach place is the place to go to for summer time gelato in the Illawarra Coast, apart from the one at Panorama House, Cold Rock and Patisccerie Massimo Papa. However it was imprudent to go for the cold stuff on a rather classic winter’s day on the coast south of Sydney.Austi does have an interesting food menu though. I have seen so many pulled pork offerings around the Wollongong, Melbourne and Sydney areas – so I gave the pulled lamb on toast a definite go. I loved it, with the taste, texture and overall flavours pleasing my palate. The ocean waves were crashing outside just across the road and fellow lunchers were huddled near the over head heater.

Overpriced, terrible coffee, terrible service. Lovely location across the road from the beach but that’s all it’s got going for it.

Not recommended.. Staying next door, we thought we’d pop over for a quick and easy Sunday morning breaky. It was easily the longest I’ve waited for the most simple breakfast order yet.3 of us waited 50 minutes for toast that wasn’t toasted, poached eggs (I only received 1 with my order and had to chase up the second), and rock hard avocado. The whole meal was average at best. When the waitress put my friends soy latte down she was adamant it was a flat white and had to check with the kitchen. Then they overcharged us on the bill (this was quickly sorted, to their credit).Didn’t seem like it was a good morning for this cafe. We won’t be back.

Brunch by the beach On my…. Brunch by the beachOn my last day of summer break before going back to work tomorrow, I decided to grab my sister-in-law and head down to the beach. We always get a coffee at Austi, but today we sat down to eat as well. We arrived at 11:50 and were told we could order either breakfast (by noon) or lunch. We both chose the French Toast, which comes with blueberries, marscapone, streaky bacon and maple syrup…Amazing! Huge portions, all cooked perfectly… French Toast was soft, and bacon was crisp. Our waitress, Lisa, was very helpful. This place is always packed, and very busy. I’m surprised to read some of the other reviews, but people need to understand how popular this place is. Don’t come here if you aren’t happy to wait! But the food is great, view is fantastic, and coffee is excellent.

Bad service bad food. Very disappointed with our meals and service today. This is my first online review as I have never been so disappointed. When my partner and I arrived we had been seated after 5 mins. We had been clearly waiting to be served for over 15 mins when the waitress walked past and started clearing the tables next to us, we had asked her if we had to order at the counter she turned around and rolled her eyes at us and took our order. The scones and our banana smoothie was good but our meals were terrible, my salad had mint leaves tossed through which were brown and old. My partners meals (seafood dish $25) was pathetic! Very small dish filled with chopped veggies and a bit of seafood on top. Not happy with our experience and would not go back.

Food is not nice. Went there today for lunch and I am not going back even if they will have a half price special. I ordered beer battered barramundi and it tasted like it just jumped out of the freezer straight into a deep fryer. Overpriced food but no flavour at all, very disappointed with my experience today. The view is nice though.

Disappointed. My wife and I had lunch here today. We walked up the steps and waited to be seated as the chalkboard asks. Within 30 seconds a waitress asked us to wait a moment. She then served food to five tables then called out for us to sit at a particular table. She could have done the same when we arrived. Within minutes our drink order was taken, and a few moments later we ordered our lunch. Our coffees arrived and were very nice. My wife had battered barramundi with hot chips. I had slow cooked beef. It came with two tiny pieces of roast-type potato and a small bed of salad/vegetable. The beef fell apart but had no flavour at all, and the whole meal was the size of a meat patty on a hamburger. The barramundi was not good. It’s flavour was not great. Our bill came to $56 with our only satisfaction being coffee and the hot chips. The view is lovely but it doesn’t make up for the food. While we don’t know for sure, we both doubt that our mains were made fresh to order. We will not recommend to anyone and will not return. Just very disappointing.
