Very disappointing – never again!. Decided to try ‘The Cave’ Mexican Tapas in Thirroul. We went out for dinner on a Friday night with friends and the place was practically empty and we wondered why…..and then it started. As we entered the place we came across a man in street clothes who appeared to work there. After telling him the name of the booking etc he suggested we ‘grab that table in the corner’. We sat down and were surrounded by lashings of cheap organza spotlight curtains hanging from the walls – weird! The scratched old wooden tables were sticky. We were handed a4 pieces of paper that had the menu typed on them. My husband ordered a chorizo dish only to be told the restaurant didn’t have chorizo tonight…..really?? Go to bilo and buy some…it’s on your menu!! We each ordered a tapas dish worth no more then $10 each. We then ordered drinks. I ordered the blanc de blanc sparkling off the menu. The waiter came back and told us they had no white wine as they forgot to order any….he said they might have the sparkling. I told him that’s what I ordered so that would be fine. No white wine….really?? The meals arrived and they were tastless and boring. The beef nachos had a couple of pieces of tastless beef but were predominantly filled with black beans, so was the pulled pork quesadilla. The tortilla and taco’s were stale and tasted like cardboard. The chicken nachos were tastless and contained chicken gristle. We had to ask for plates to eat the tapas and be able to share them. We didn’t finish our meals and only ordered one tapas and drink each before deciding to leave. When we went to pay the cashier told us the computer system was down so he added the bill via a notepad and his iPhone while a drunken man standing around the counter asked us how our night was going….we said ‘good thanks’ just because he was creepy and we didn’t want to engage him. It was a waste of our time and stomach space. We will never go back and it’s a disgrace for Thirroul and I was embarrassed I took my friends there. Really poor food, service and atmosphere. Really annoyed I wasted my night.

Unfortunate. We went for a Mexican meal and were disappointed with the quality of food. Prices were average however portion size and quality were very poor. The quasadella we ordered was appalling, dry and tasteless. We had to ask for the quacamole. Service was extremely slow. Would not go back nor recommend it.
We wanted a casual tapas & wine experience, had known about The Cave and it had mixed reviews, thought we would give it a try.It was bad! Corner table facing a wall both directions, extremely dirty wine glasses & a bad smell from the floor. The bar area where we could have sat looked much nicer. The place was empty. We ordered a taco each worth $7.5….. Having had amazing tacos in Sydney CBD for $3 each I was expecting something special. It was a single pork soft taco with no sauce and a sad looking iceberg lettuce. My partner had a beef taco which was the same. I can honestly say I have never not eaten my dinner. I took two bites and we left.Shocked & sad we wasted our Saturday night out on this place.I would not recommend & hope with all the new places opening up in the area we get something better.
