Best Christmas dinner!!! We were the last customers, it was closing time (about 10.30pm), but everyone was greeted us like they just started their day. Key points:>The crew was so energetic and food was awesome. >Especially the naan bread was so soft and tasty that it could be eaten alone. >The chicken was tender and juicy. >The service was immaculate and quick.>It is located very close to the beach, so you can spoil yourself with wonderful food and then have a nice walk to the beach.
A busy, well-patronised restaurant on lower Crown Street, the staff were friendly but the service was a little chaotic at times. I’d heard good reports about the place but came away feeling it was more a reliable option than a stand-out. I went with a party of six and we had baingan pakoras (eggplant fritters in chickpea flour) and samosas (potato and peas) with mint sauce for entrees – finding it pretty standard fare. The Machli raye tamatara main course (a fish curry in tomato sauce) was tender and very tomato-ie but lacking any other flavour and not remotely spicy. The Gulbadan kofta – balls of vegetable mince in a mild cashew-based curry were plain and if not deluged in a creamy tikka-like sauce would have been pretty unappetising. The baingan curry – roasted eggplant and peas – and the palak paneer – baby spinach and cottage cheese – were both really good, tasty vegetarian dishes. They did a very flat, unpuffy, but tasty, Kashmiri naan with cashews, sultanas and coconut too. We had a problem with one of the mains being forgotten, and without a prompt from our waiter neglected to order rice, so had to wait for that after the mains arrived. Averaged about $25-30 a head.
