Elegance for the Festive Season. It was only a Christmas choice menu that Saturday evening. Three or four course I believe. My roast veal was immaculate, tender and gratifying. Combine this with our choice of Italian red Piano Del Cerro Aglianico, it uplifted my sensations further. The dining space is not large, tables can be too closely located but the overall ambiance is satisfactory. Staff are engaging and there is a separate bar area. Dyl had the grilled swordfish, a generous portion of tender juicy delight sitting on a bed of greens. We shared our dessert – a flourless choice cake with wattle seed die cream and creme anglaise, with the Torta di Verona (whipped mascarpone and toasted almonds served with panting soaked in amaretto and marsala). I preferred the rather gracious choice cake slice, with intense quality chocolate swirling on our tongues. For primi, Dyl and the gnocchi and I took a seafood sample plate – alls good. Lorenzo’s is within walking distance from the Wollongong Central shopping centre and is worth checking out along Keira Street, a foodie hub for Wollongong. Open for lunch only on Thursdays and Fridays and dinners from Tuesday to Saturdays, closed on Sundays and Mondays – it was voted the best Italian restaurant in Australia recently, beating stiff competition from the capital cities.
Wollongong’s Best Restaurant. I sound like I am being paid for this, but it truly is Wollongong’s best.Great Mod Italian/Australian, simple but delicious food; good wines; Lorenzo runs the floor like the seasoned professional he is. Long live Lorenzo’s!
I took my wife their for dinner and was not informed of the minimum of $70 a head on Saturday night. Service was average and my wife who is a vegetarian basically had two salad plates at $70 dollars . The waitress could not wait to move the next couple onto our table. I was very disappointed and all no go again.
Taste good but too little meals. I went there once. To be honest. The meals was too small with the price of $40 per dish. I have to order 2 dishes because it not enough for me. The taste is good but just the meal was too small.
Italian / Asian Fusion. My wife and I had dinner then one saturday night a few weeks ago and I forgo to write a review. Lorenzo’s has a set price on saturday nights (I think it was about $69pp without alcohol)…though we didn’t drink that night the food was very good…refined and melted in your mouth. Though we like pure Italian / mediterrean flavours the fusion with Asian flavours was very subtle and very tasty. the service staff were lovely and lorenzo was as usual overseeing the floor and alternating with the kitchen. My only comment would be that the decor is a tad cold / mundane but overall and very good evening with excellent food.
A Class Act. Lorenzo’s Diner is one of my favourite restaurants. Everything about the place is great. Lorenzo and his team tirelessly work to deliver an enjoyable dining experience. He takes great care in servicing his diners. As a regular, I would attest to the quality of the food and service. This place is very popular and I am yet to have a bad meal. Give it a go and say g’day to Lorenzo!
Worst dinnig experieince in Wollongong!. My experience of Lorenzo’s is that the owner is sick of the business he is in. I felt no passion for food or for sharing food with customers. Lorenzo clearly feels that people misunderstand dining and the dining experience. To me people go out to enjoy and share food with each other and as hosts a restaurant facilitates good food and a good ambience – well Lorenzo did neither for us. After quickly and sharply telling us that he does not cater for the birthday cake and BYO crowd he told us in no uncertain terms that we could leave if we were not happy with the service so we did. Sadly I did not get to taste the food which I was looking forward to – but I imagine that it would have been served with the same tiredness and spite that the service was.
