My daughter booked wedding at this venue. 15 weeks before the wedding she was informed that costs had gone up with some items included in the package and the outside area available was less than originally indicated during initial venue visit. She indicated communication to come to some agreement was not good. And when I posted a review on fb page it was pointed out that I was not the customer and problems had been rectified. No…my daughter and her fianc cancelled. Issues were never rectified. I suggested they private message me to arrange phone contact to correct any incorrect information I posted. They didn’t, instead they chose to continue a public thread and then implied in a post to someone else that they would happily return emails or call me. Yet they were relectant to give my daughter, the ‘customer’, that courtesy.
I’m not sure what attracts people to this place, maybe it’s the beautiful setting near the water, but I think it’s more about hype and stigma of going to ‘the lagoon’ once upon a time, when I was a child the food here was beautiful, lovely fresh seafood, that was succulent and sweet tasting of the sea. Now, I’ve tried so many times over the last few years (in fact over the last year and a half – 4 times) to try and understand why people come here, each time there was something wrong or that went wrong with the food. The seafood platters are a joke, the seafood tastes water logged and hey! It has no taste! Everything seems to be covered in cream and that’s about the end of their creativity. They seriously need to have a reality check, their are local cafes (yes I said cafes) that do a better job than them. Things that were wrong – dirty cutlery, plus it also seems really old, they seem to finally be replacing the grotty dining chairs that are falling apart and ripped, glass wear is generally grubby, one of our scotch and cokes was served in a glass that was so disgusting, it looked like It hadn’t even been washed with the amount of creamy food remains left in it.Service is slow and some of the staff, majority are young kids who seem to be instructed by angry disrespectful middle age men and women. In saying this two of our visits we had (sort of) attentive nice waitresses – but still they seem to make excuses and not really know what they are doing. The food, it’s just meh it’s neither here nor there, we’ve had I would say majority of the menu and the only thing that’s remotely worth trying are the bugs (but be careful! As you may come across one or two that are off – this has also happened to us on the seafood platters) if you get the chilli and ginger sauce be prepared for a very mild ginger and chilli hit – it’s hardly there. I guess not much is great, I’ve had disappointment after disappointment, I’ve given what I feel are enough tries, I’ve even had my yabbies that were meant to be served on ice – sloshed all over me, my phone, the table cloth saturated and the cutlery, do you think they changed the cutlery or table cloth? Ah, no, also hardly got an apology for drenching my phone in fishy water. The yabbies were also tasteless and the excuse was that they are served on ice and ice melts… you think they would get it out quick and not let it sit there for oh I don’t know, nearly all the ice to melt! Into yabby water soup! This was just one visit – I think you can imagine.. on a positive the creme brle is quite nice, as long as its not covered in a think layer of toffee and sugar crystals. Enjoy.
Was drenched from the rain before coming in but the staff were very attentive and very welcoming. Food was amazing!!!! The family loved what they ordered as well. If it wasnt raining, the view of the lagoon and the ocean would have been better.Thank you and please keep up the good work and will definitely come back here soon.
This was the most exquisite food I have ever had in my whole life. The seafood was so fresh. The flavours were amazing. everything was perfect from start to finish. Our waitress was just as wonderful as the dining experience itself. We spent our anniversary dinner here and it will go down in history as the greatest night of fine dining ever. All I can say is THANK YOU!
Enjoyed the freshest seafood on a platter. Nice view of the lagoon, recommend sitting outside. The Hot and Cold platter for two is sufficient for four people.Hot & Cold Seafood Platter for Two includesHot: whole lobster mornay, Moreton Bay bugs, BBQ king prawns, Kilpatrick & mornay oysters, scallops in the shell, BBQ octopus , salt & pepper calamari, barramundi pieces, & tempura prawnsCold: Balmain bugs, blue swimmer crab, natural oysters, fresh prawns & smoked salmon
Argh. Overlooked seafood, hair in my desert. Staff not trained. Shockingly feral and overpriced. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful setting. Don’t do it to yourself.
I was told it was the best place in Wollongong, and the prices surely made me believe it was a high end seafood restaurant… Well, it is not! My oysters were not fresh and I got sick because of it! My barramundi was overcooked and dry. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful place, and it has the best views of the lagoon.
