A bit dissapointed, I order cha ko to (caramelized fish) and it’s not the one like i had in Ho Chi Minh years ago. It should be braised in claypot and the soy/caramel sauce must be a bit caramalized and not like a fish soup.
always been one of mine favourite restaurant to go to in Wollongong, great Vietnamese cuisine and big portion!! Pho and pork chop is my favourite dishes from there very authentic! the service is very friendly and quick! you would not be disappointed! 🙂
Feeling like a quick cheap dinner on Thursday night, my partner and I decided to revisit trangs. We had our choice of seating as the restaurant was half full. The waitress was well spoken and friendly. The waiter was nice too but one of if the other waitresses seemed a little clueless with our bowl situation. We ordered the prawn spring rolls, chicken and bean pancake for entree and steamboat for two people as a main. Spring rolls were crispy and fresh but the pancake wasn’t like the mini vege pancakes you get from sushi train that I was expecting. It was a huge deep fried folded over crispy pancake thing with beans carrot and a couple of chicken pieces in it. Didn’t like the pancake but I liked the fresh salad- won’t be getting it again thought. The steam boat hot pot was nice with a good side of fresh hit chilli and chilli sauce. Without the sides the broth is fairly flavourless so we had to put all of the side sauces and then some into the bowl to get a decent flavour.. maybe we didn’t wait long enough for it to cook? Nonetheless it was light, hearty and fun to cook/serve ourselves. All the food and drinks came out quickly and totalled $48. I’ll happily come back again.
Memory lane. After 22 years, I thought i would visit my favourite restaurant from my uni days. Whilst the decor has changed, the food is still just as good as I remember. Great value, great selection and still excellent value. Well done Trangs!
I have to admit that I’ve only ever been to this place once and I doubt I will ever be going back. I was expecting traditional Vietnamese food and was disappointed by the quality and lack of knowledge of ingredients required for even the simplest dishes. To make matters worse, they couldn’t even cook the food properly. My friend ordered combination noodle soup and the chicken was still raw and the noodles soft, soggy and overdone.
Its ok. Come here for the pho which isnt too bad everything else on the menu is ok. Still, good value for money, good service and worth a try
