Woolloomooloo bay hotel Really the sample size is small. I had the pulled pork burger, nice strong taste and though it looked small it was filling. And very messy to eat My wife had the salad with chicken, she was impressed, better than she expected Food took a reasonable time to come out. There is outdoor seating and inside had plenty of tv’s on with different sports Price wise a little more than expected Still feel like I need to eat something else here to get a better idea on how to rate this place mm
The menu has recently changed to a more modern pub menu. Food is good enough but more expensive than it used to be. Got the chicken schnitty burger and chips for about $19
We used a scoopon voucher for $100 worth of food last weekend.I had the chicken parmigiana. Excellent, and the salad and fries that came with it were perfect. Our 2 kids had the kids’ meals, cheeseburger for one and fish and chips for the other. Both were very happy. And my wife had the Szechuan fried whole baby snapper, which was not fresh and disappointing (although the salad that came with it was excellent). It came to $87, leaving us enough credit for a dessert.I wouldn’t hesitate to dine there again BUT I’d stick to the sort of food that pubs typically do well. And stay away from anything that sounds too fancy and which might not have as much turnover. But that’s a pretty good rule of thumb for any pub food.
Two reasons I would have food at a pub: 1) they serve it relatively fast2) it is cheap(er)Although the food we had (salmon and flat head) was tasty, it did not tick one of the aforementioned boxes. The 1 hour wait got dismissed by the staff: ‘we only have one crew tonight’…
Background information: End of year work function had been booked here for approximately 130 people, including finger food and a 3 hour drinks package.Atmosphere: Simple layout, standing tables, some couches, some ottoman seats. Tablecloths, some bon-bons that our events co-ordinator provided (e.g. the hotel didn’t), some little LED christmas trees. Nothing special. Music volume was moderate at the start of the session, but was turned up to being way too loud to have any semblance of conversation without shouting.Service: The staff bringing out the food were smiles and friendly. The staff behind the bar were not. Facial expressions said it all, they simply didn’t want to be there. The food: A mix of good, and mediocre. The good were these great fresh tasty prawn rolls, the peking duck wraps, mini pulled pork sliders. The mediocre were bruchetta, mini hot-dogs, very small stuffed mushrooms, mini spring rolls, average skewers of very tough lamb and barely grilled capsicum and onion. A fairly standard cheese platter. Okay but nothing to rave about were the salmon with capers on little slices of toast, and arancini balls. The drinks package: We had the choice of three beers and three wines, all softdrinks and juices, and tap water. Sadly no options for cider. Not much to say more than that. The remainder of comments: Looking up at the ceiling on the way to the bathrooms, you could see scorch marks on the ceiling where ‘something’ used to be. A light fixture? A speaker? not entirely sure, but its gone, but the heat damage from it wasn’t cleaned up, or painted over. Not a great look unfortunately.Overall experience, the nice fingerfood saved the rating from being any worse, but the music control, and lack of service atmosphere was really the killer. While the food and drink wasn’t horrible, for a festive event, the atmosphere really matters, and it just was another ordinary loud pub.
Had a function there recently. Water dripping from the roof, one of the service doors was jammed open so cold wind was blowing in from the outside the whole time, and the staff although efficient seemed pretty grumpy. To top it off the food which seemed well prepared and otherwise tasty came out luke warm. Desserts were ok. Alright for a few beers no doubt after work but definitely not set up for events.
The location is great! If you want a cheaper version of all the $$$ fine dining restaurants nearby, you can try this pub! they serve good food and drinks on tap. A lilttle bit pricey buy descent. Apparently they changed chef now, the food is much better than before.
