A great little cafe off Bourke St in Alexandria. We ended up going to Portman cafe as part of a work from home day for both of us. Surprising little find, this one – head here for amazing Asian-inspired breakfasts/brunches. Between the two of us, we’ve now tried almost everything they have on their menu!Recommendations would definitely have to include the Omelette Bowl, Mi Goreng Brekkie Bowl, Sriracha Eggs Benny, and almost everything else. A definite side if you’re a meat eater like us – bacon!
Found my new favourite cafe in the corner of a quiet alley. Their Portman signature bun was really satisfying, I love the soft fluffy steamed bun and the very well done bacon. The green tea latte was good too! Cant wait to come back to try their other Asian inspired items!
Anyone who frequented Nan’s knows it was a very long time before it was recreated back into it’s former purpose as a cafe. Cafe Portman now resides and has switched up the space as well as the dynamic. With a clear asian influence, the menu is now quite heavy and all a bit rich. The coffee here is great though, and is close contender to the quality you could find earlier at Nan’s.The warm breakkie bowl is a take on bibimbap, although tasty, its a bit heavy and oily, and could do with something to cut through. The bao is expectedly sticky, but a little dense without much fluffiness or bounce. With two grains in one bowl its welcoming that the wild rice has crisp and crunch to differentiate it from the softer quinoa in terms of texture. crumbs-au.com
