Quirky joint that attracts a younger crowd with live music and a good selection of burgers and pizzas. By the look of the place and the menu, we assume that it’s owned by the same people as Lol’s Pergola, in Darwin, and has that same funky feel. Decent food, a place to be seen
I booked a paid show at Monte’s only to have the band turned away after driving 12 hours to the venue. The owner’s claimed to be unaware the show was happening even though it was promoted by them. The owner, Kitty and manager Swann were unjustifiably rude when I tried to resolve the situation; one talking down to me and the other laughing at the band and myself. The manager was unaccommodating, telling me there was no PA at the venue, even though it was previously discussed there’d be one. He then backtracked and told me they had a PA but it’s “too much work to move it”. He then agreed to an acoustic show – only to backtrack on that too. There is a serious lack of communication between the owners and staff and their professionalism when it comes to customer service need to be revised. Please do not book this venue if you’re after an easy show, they didn’t allow the band to play their set because they no longer wanted to pay them.
If you are in Alice Springs then you have to get your arse down to Montes – forget the fact that it serves heaps of tap beers, a fair wine list and a decent bar menu – it’s the only place to meet the locals & have a chat about what really happens in Central Australia. Turn up by yourself, ask to join a table & be immersed in a debate about funding or domestic violent or the arts!!! Stunning city, venue that reflects that mood.
I don’t understand the popularity of pub trivia but I understand it’s a peer pressure type activity that happens in small towns. If you get roped into this you’ll also have to contend with a convoluted, failable ordering and production line meal making system. Having eventually received my haloumi burger it was excessively heavy on the olive spread, but I felt like the victor to have received anything at all. Strangely, not a terrible experience.
