They have gone off their game of late. Just an update to the previous review, the last few times they have gone off their game. Prices have gone up. Quality and size of the meals has gone down. The last few steaks were cooked too fast, and with way too much fat. Some of the meals have turned up cold. Gone from a thumbs up to a thumbs down.02 Jan, 2012Aspley Hornets is excellent value. It is pub grub with generous servings. I have never been disappointed with any of their meals. We have had a couple of private functions there as well and the staff have been great. If you’re a local, keep an eye out for their lunch time specials. From time to time there are good specials on offer (meat and three veg).
Have dined here many times, the food is always good, the staff are always friendly and it is good value, even better when you are a member. Highly recommend.
Entrees were very nice but the mains are why we voted against this restaurant. Beef skewers over cooked and meat dry, prawn and crab ravioli tasteless. Desserts ok but mango and coconut Charlotte tasteless.
Cancelling Membership. We have been to the Hornets many times and always busy around dinner time means this place serves a good Spread of food. Unfortunately the kitchen staff/chef have gone horribly wrong somewhere! previous visit food was dry and very ordinary,in that i could have cooked better at home , and a salad served with wilting lettuce with visible brown marks on , should have not made the plate!Last nite we gave the club another go , Busy yes the club was a buzz, we sat down at 7.30 as we did not make a booking but that was all good. We shared a pumpkin and feta pide with an olive oil drizzle.This took 15mins to get to us, very ordinary,dry no olive oil in sight and the pide was like crunching on concrete, something went horribly wrong with the dough mix!we had roasted pork medallion and the beer battered fish of the day,which was mulloway ,just like barramundi to me the fish texture was like bream soft mushy texture. the beer batter was disgusting in that i took 2 mouthfuls of my meal and sent it back, it was not beer batter at all ,in fact it was deep fried within an inch of its life ,dry, hard and greasy. Management took control and a replacement came 15minutes later,just as my wife finished off her dry overcooked meal. she actually left about a third! This replacement meal was delivered by staff and the batter this time looked light pale yellow, when i cut the fish the oil ooze quite freely onto my plate and on tasting 2 mouthfuls again had to send it back as it was too oily and the batter was floury and tasted like flour, the fish was mush!To add insult to my ordeal my wife noticed a hair on the side of my plate near the salad! I calmly took back my meal to the counter and after 5 minutes the manager approached our table. We discussed the matter and he agreed with me that beer battered fish should not be what i had been served, as this batter was his favourite. He announced that the chef and staff have been getting this wrong for a while and that the meals become ordinary after the head chef knocks off at 7.30pm . He could not offer another plate ,which i would have rejected , as the kitchen was closed and offered a meal from the coffee cafe or another drink , i asked for a refund which was given to me. Disappointing and we have officially given up on the club and i will be posting off my membership card for cancellation.
Great Saturday night buffet. They put on a delicious seafood buffet on Saturday night and it’s very reasonably priced.Highly recommended.
GREAT VALUE. GREAT TASTE.. I have been dining at Hornets regularly for the last 6 months. The food is consistently of a high standard and very reasonable prices. I normally choose from the daily menu which ranges from $10 for lunch meals and $15 for dinner. Presentation is always of a high standard and the servings adequate. Staff are always friendly. I’ve tried to encourage someone from my local club to take a visit and bring back ideas. So far, no luck so I have to keep coming back.
Absolutely amazing meal tonight! Steak was cooked to perfection and the chips were deliciously crispy topped with mouth watering mushroom sauce. Haven’t even made it to dessert yet and had to write a review, it was that good. High compliments to the chef, especially on such a busy night (cheap skate night). Really outdone themselves. Will definitely keep coming back! Good job guys! 🙂
