Visited the Wesley Hospital for a few days to care for a family member. In desperate need of good coffee I asked a few people around the hospital if they were coffee drinkers and which caf would they wouldrecommend. Even though it wasn’t the closest caf to our room, they led me to SJ’s. Presentation of caf was clean and tidy. Staff greeted me quickly and with a smile. Segafredo coffee on offer was beautifully made. Milk was textured well and temperature just right. Recommend!
SJs Bistro: Way to go!. This is the second time I’ve been to SJs in the Sandford Jackson Building at the Wesley Hospital, and this is by far, the BEST coffee I’ve had in Brisbane!! I know this may not be a destination place in that it’s in a hospital area, but my goodness, after any medical appointment, I will make sure to have a coffee here!Originally I had been recommended to try this place for its coffee from people I know who work in the area. The first time I tried SJs, I had a long black ($3.50) and the gentleman behind the counter was so nice in that he brought it out to me (there’s indoor and outdoor seating). The long black was fantastically made, strong, bold and fresh, and not a hint of bitterness. My most recent visit (Wed, March 7) occurred after a meet & greet with a specialist that ended up costing me over $350, to which I almost had a heart attack but realized I couldn’t afford it! Instead, I went to SJs to allow my body to recover from shock.I met the same nice gentleman who said he could make me an iced latte ($5) when I asked for one. Apparently, it’s cash under $10, but he said I could use my credit card in that I didn’t have cash on me. Again my coffee was brought out to me, and was told if it was too strong they could fix it up. The iced latte was perfect! Nice strong coffee and thick creamy milk, with not too many ice cubes to water it down, but still arrived ice cold! I don’t know what brand of coffee is used here, or how they process it, but it is one of the best coffees I’ve had – in any country! On my way through SJs I wanted to compliment the gentleman on how wonderful his coffees are. Turns out that Simon is the owner and we had a discussion about the other menu items he serves in his bistro: Dessert squares, savoury pastries, and larger lunch items including steak sandwiches. I told Simon I’d have to come back and try some of the food because if it’s anything like the coffee, the meals are bound to be fantastic!!I would recommend this place to anyone, especially coffee lovers. I know the location may not get a lot of walk by traffic, but if you’re in the area, have a doctor’s appointment or are a patient needing to escape from your bed to get some good food, SJs Bistro is the place to aim for!!
