In comparison to other Thai places in Brisbane, I think The Green Mango is pretty average. They definitely have a wide range of options and nice flavours but it’s very expensive. The portion sizes however are decent. I ordered Thai Duck Curry ($27.80) which was very watery diluting the flavour. The coconut rice had a nice flavour but was also quite watery. The deep fried ice cream is a fair price ($5.90) and is really good.
A bit expensive for what it is – more of a caf feel than a restaurant. Duck pancake starter was nice, mains were generous. Panang curry was tasty, but vegetables were bland (maybe needed grilling). The Pork Belly was okay, but just deep fried and not slow cooked. It was supposed to have a tomato chutney, but it tasted like pizza sauce. Staff were all lovely. Noticed that the restaurant accepts ‘Entertainment Book’ vouchers – maybe this accounts for the slightly higher prices. Soft drinks were expensive considering it wasn’t fine dining. As I said, really nice staff and some good food, but too many other options that do a bit better.
The best Thai food in Brissy!! fresh, full of flavour! I had the Vientiane set with sticky rice, laos sausage and papaya salad, hubby had soft shell crab with papaya salad. I had a small serving but was so full after my meal. What a gem of a place!!!
Surprisingly no one have reviewed this restaurant. We have been here a few times. We were first interested in the combination of Asian and western decors, and the staff there were mostly Australian. Looked at the menu and found the prices were quite higher than many others. We have tried different dishes each time we visited, and we thought those meals were just alright. The one that we loved and always had to order was the Vientiane set which was grilled Laos style sausages, fresh papaya salad and sticky rice. Wowwww it’s soooo yum!!! The sausages were housemade; no where else we could find! The salad was full of flavours and we always requested a Thai hot one:)The service was excellent. The owners were always there; the husband was a chef and the wife managed front of the house. Apart from the food, she was the one who kept customers coming back. She had such a good customer service minded. Definitely will be back for the Vientiane and the lovely service.
