A very nice place to have lunch and a cold beerGreat atmosphere and a very pleasant placeWildlife surrounds u in the beautiful trees, so does the old dragon that works there. While enjoying a beer in the shade of the sun we were abruptly told that our seat and all the others were reserved for a wedding ‘that’s what the table cloth marked’No reservation signs just the table cloth on one of the tables , how silly of me.She then flew over to some 4 year old kids and gave them an earful too. It’s a shame the whitewalkers didn’t appear and spear he from the sky 🙂

This a great spot for some country style hospitality and a Sunday spit roast lunch. We thought the pork was delicious (although the serving size was a little light on) and you could help yourself to a selection of 3 salads, gravy and apple sauce. It wasn’t the best value meal we’ve ever had – but the pub and grounds were lovely and the staff friendly.

One of the motorcycle groups that my hubby rides with, decided to have a weekend at Boreen Point, staying at The Apollonian Hotel (they also do basic shared-bathroom style accommodation).  So we ended up dining here two nights and it was great. On Friday night there was fantastic live music, supplied by a few locals and the place was jumping. Great atmosphere.  There was about 10 of us eating here on the Friday night and pretty much everyone enjoyed their meal (apart from the lamb shanks folk – the shanks were just not cooked long enough to be falling off the bone the way they should).  I opted for the chicken schnitzel, chips, salad and grave – talk about the most enormous meal.  My schnitty was a proper chicken breast (not that compounded stuff) crumbed in a delicious crunchy crumb and cooked to golden perfection.  With a generous serve of chips and probably the biggest side salad I’ve seen on a pub meal.  The gravy was also delicious.  Hubby went with a medium-rare t-bone which was also cooked to perfection. On Saturday night – knowing how huge the meals were – we just shared a couple of dishes.  We went with the duck springs rolls – amazing – and shared a home-made lasagne and chips/salad.  Again really really yum – the lasagne was hearty and well cooked, although a tad dry (could have used a bit more sauce) but great flavours.  And this time having shared we didn’t waddle back to our motel quite as much as the evening before. On the Saturday there was about 20 of us, and again pretty much everyone enjoyed their meal (lamb shanks were avoided on advice from those who ate them on Friday night).  The only disappointment on the Saturday night was no live music, so it was a little quieter and we all headed off much earlier than we would have (i.e. didn’t buy anywhere near as much booze). We didn’t stay for the famous sunday session – but I would absolutely go back to both Boreen Point and the Apollonian – top spot!
