Went here with my friends Adam and Dan for their cheese wheel night. Parking was hectic on this night despite both a car park across the road and their small above ground parking. I accidentally went down the ramp into residential parking and did the world’s tightest 10+ point turn. I ended up behind the restaurant and had to circle the block to get in since they had closed the door at the back.I got this Moscow Mule, I did not like it. Probably because its a Moscow Mule. For my entree, I got the fried prawns and calamari which came with a bunch green onions and chili sprinkled over the top of it. I also got a side of lemony mayonnaise with it as well. Super tender bite sized pieces of prawn and calamari! These were well fried and not overly rubbery, easy on my poor teeth. We got these arancini which was a beetroot and cheese one. The outside was crispy but the insides weren’t that gooey at all, and a touch dry if anything. They weren’t good, and I think we ate one a piece and left it at that. Here is the cheese wheel, there are two of them that are wheeled around the restaurant for the cheesy pasta.I got the ravioli di ricotta spinaci burro e salvia, hand made ricotta and spinach ravioli with butter and sage. Personally I like my butter always burnt or brown! Adds a nice, nutty, not so oily edge to the butter sauce which adds a nice contrast. I liked how much sage they used so I always had a piece to nibble with each ravioli. The pasta itself was silky with a lovely creamy filling from the wonderful combination of spinach and ricotta.Dan got the porchetta. I tried it but I do not recall anything of this dish I’m afraid!Adam’s was the problem child since he decided to upgrade by getting both the $5 truffle sauce as well as getting some additional protein in his to bulk out his meal. His meal arrived halfway through though when I was eating my main plus when Dan had eaten almost all of his. We watched the show of cheese wheel scraping and torching and set out to eat the pasta, the truffle sauce was not very truffle scented and there were no pieces present that we could see. We asked the cheese wheel servers and they assured us that there was indeed truffle.Adam had a few more pieces before attempting to wave down another waiter. It took so long to get another staff member’s attention that his pasta had gone cold. We were right however, they had left the jug of truffled sauce in the kitchen and came over to pour it over his pasta.Meatballs were okay. Once again, nothing memorable, they are pretty large though. All in all, the food is quite good. The service was really average and that’s what really made this an average meal for me. Despite 3-4 waiters in the room at all time, it took ages for anyone to come over for orders, to clear plates, to put in extra drink orders, to get Adam’s pasta fixed and even to get our bill since the manager was chatting to someone at the bar. We got the truffle sauce for free by the waiter who got the truffle sauce but I got the feeling when the manager asked us how our meals were and we actually told her, that she didn’t care whatsoever. thatseriousgirl.blogspot.com
My family and I had quite a disappointing experience at Salt Meats Cheese Gasworks. The night started strong with friendly wait staff and tasty entrees including the Arancini Of The Day and the Woodfired Garlic Bread. However, the majority of the main meals were not enjoyed, or even eaten, by my family members. It seemed that this was due to the two Cheese Wheel pastas being delivered to the table before any other meal. As this process took a little while, the other meals received afterwards were cold, overcooked or just unappetising. Both of the cheese wheel pastas had also been ordered with truffle oil (at an additional cost) which was not added to the pasta as promised. Whilst the oil was brought over eventually, it was disappointing and would not have been addressed had my family members not realised it was missing. The restaurant then offered 10% off the bill due to the bad meals which was a kind gesture, however, I don’t think we will be returning for the food.TLDR: cheese wheel pasta was enjoyable, other meals suffered as a result.
Ordered the prosciutto pizza take away. It was pretty good, great base and good topping mix. The only thing that I’d comment on is that the base was slightly burnt.
