I did not read the signs when looking for a place to eat, after missing out on a table at the surf club. Many of the good restaurants had people waiting for a table, but not Max. It was a friend’s choice -she does not like waiting. We ordered fish and chips. They were the worst I have ever had. The fish -if that is what you called it- was tasteless and raw, batter was so thick and saturated in fat, salad was ok, every one left their meals. Paid $26+ and left. Never again, just a terrible experience. To top it off the person who chose the restaurant was sick all night! Save your money, until they get a new chef.
$10 lunch special seems like good value and for the serving sizes, it is. However, the food is just okay. I ordered the ocean perch crepe mornay – the fish was nice and delicate. I couldn’t eat all the crepe, it just got a bit much. The sauce was really oily. We also had the rib eye fillet – sadly this was over cooked and cold. But, as above, the serving size was great. And we also ordered the Cajun spiced calamari – looked great and the flavours were on point, but the calamari was under cooked. I wasn’t convinced about the vibe and atmosphere of this place. It just didn’t sit right with me. The other let down is that you get charged for tomato sauce and are not advised that there is a cost. Also, minimum credit card spend is $25. Seems a bit behind the times on this one. Not likely to go here again.
Very pleasant experience. We don’t dine out often as we are spoilt with great food at home and often get disappointed with the meal or service. Max’s had both great on service as well as the food was absolutely spot on. We had Garlic Bread to start and it was enough for 4 people and the best I have had for years. Main my wife choice was Chicken and it was a great combination of flavours I had an Eye Fillet and it was melt in your mouth tender with a lovely sauce which was made at Max’s. The service was !st class and the Restaurant was busy. I would recommend you make a trip to Broadbeach an enjoy Max’s
