Had a catch up lunch here on a somewhat busy Friday. We were seated straight away and loved the raise the sail to order idea, which is very similar to La Quinta Mexican across the street. The dcor ismodern and invitingand the staff look professional. The menu is very large, with lots of options from small meze style plates through to filling mains and salads. We chose to Saganaki cheese to start, which was sizzling when it came out and was unfortunately quite burnt on the bottom. The fig glyko they serve with the Saganaki is too thick and heavy as well (something like pear and rocket would be much better). In saying that, the portion size was huge. We opted for the lighter Chicken & Chickpea Salad and the Roasted Chicken Salad to follow. The Roasted was the better salad, despite the large chunks of roasted onion and complete lack of pancetta. Lunch for two with wine set us back $95. Wed give Ambrosia a pass mark it has the makings of a great spot, but theres still a few things that need fine-tuning here.

The ambience, wait service and quality of food on point at this lovely local. We enjoyed a variety of Mezes of Beetroot Chips crumbed stuffed olives and Kufnah (sorry about the spelling, it’s their cheese specialty) to start off the feast. We could happily snacked on these with a few fancy cocktails all night long.We then had a main each of Duck Pie, Lamb Shank and Chicken Grill plate. Portion size is definitely not something Ambrosia skimp on. These mains were massive, large enough to share between 2. However that said, we all polished off each of our meals. If we had pf had toom for dessert then we would definitely have fit in a cake or two.

Coffee is the best on Oxford Street if you like your Cappuccino with Almond Milk. Food is very high quality and the sevice is always friendly. Highly recommend.

Sent chicken souvlaki back via it was undercooked it came out 20 minutes later as we were paying to leave cos we were both over waiting another 20 minutes for them to cook the same two chicken souvlakis again. The chicken came out as we were leaving so we asked for it in a take away container as we had somewhere to be and didnt have time to sit down and eat it. Wasnt charged for that meal and Im glad we werent coz the chicken was still RAW. WHO SERVES RAW CHICKEN TWICE TO A SIX MONTH PREGNANT WOMAN!?!?!? You guys from the wait staff to the kitchen are oblivious and clueless.

It ain’t all boat shoes and sweaters around the neck at Ambrosia & Co. (who’s the ‘Co.’ do you reckon?). The vibe is actually way more mellow than anticipated, so it was perfect for a bit of casual albeit quality lunching on a public holiday (with no surcharges I might add!). Our order was pretty varied everything from soft shell crab and lamb souvas (a sexier, softer kebab) and seared scallops to a quinoa salad but all dishes were overflowing with the bits you bought your ticket for. The crab should have come out in a Hawaiian shirt it was fat and ready to party. Our feta fries were late to the table, but no one from our group fret about it too much. It was a good dessert! They also serve beer in a can, which endears me no end. Sails up for Ambrosia! And even the mystery Co.

Hmmm. Fitout looks inviting and fresh however food was terrible. We started with the Cauliflower Skordalia. Which should have tasted like Roasted Cauli and Garlic. But it was not seasoned and was a white tasteless goo. One whole tablespoon of the stuff for 4 pieces of bread. Clearly no one tastes food before it goes out. My partner ordered the Chicken giros platter. The chicken was dried out and the dips looked store bought. I guess the Chips were ok! 🙂 I ordered the Vegetarian Paella. It looked great when it arrived. However, first mouthful produced a squishy mess of overcooked rice bathed in an undercooked tomato sauce. Left the meal behind after one taste. Now, I understand it’s tough to run a business and costs are a concern, but when no passion or care is taken when preparing meals and meal prep is your core business, kinda makes you wonder. Hope the owners take this on board and implement a system which monitors food consistency and quality. Unfortunately, slim pickings for foodies on Oxford st. 🙁
