After our movie, we headed here for dinner. I usually avoid Indian places that serve the standard butter chicken, roganjosh etc fare, as I am not a big fan of UK Indian food which is usually very unhealthy compared to normal Indian food, but the claim of healthy Indian food here made me quite curious to try it out.We ordered kadai lamb and paneer butter masala with rice, roti and garlic naan. We ordered the kadai lamb ‘Indian hot’ and the paneer butter masala ‘regular hot’.The kadai lamb which I felt was the best dish of the evening, was indeed hot and spicy, with well cooked tender lamb. However, the sauce needed to have been cooked a bit longer as the flavours had not quite come together. Overall, this dish rated a 3-3.5. The paneer butter masala was sweet which made the dish somewhat unpalatable for me. It was a creamy dish, prepared in a similar way to a butter chicken sauce. I would rate this dish a 2.5. They made an attempt to ‘Indianise’ their dishes, but I guess with the base sauces they use (which they do for the perceived ‘Australian’ palate), this is ultimately going to result in an unsatisfactory outcome. I wish Indian restaurants would focus on regional specialties of the cook instead of aiming for a mythical ‘Australian’ palate. Most Australians I know are able to appreciate well cooked food – the rest is just a matter of individual taste. (I have a similar complaint about Thai restaurants here). The breads were disappointing, and I found out later on that they do not have a tandoor oven here, which would make it very hard to make good naan and roti. The service here was very friendly and accommodating. The waiters were attentive and responded promptly to our requests.
Fantastic fresh food with heaps of vegan options. Highly recommend the broccoli pakora entree yum! Wonderful customer service too. Delicious curries! Will be back!
Went for dinner one night, couldn’t believe how quiet it was – don’t let that put you off. Delicious Organic Lamb Saagwala (best I’ve had in a long time). The vegetable samosas weren’t too oily and had a good bit of chilli in them. Chicken tikka pieces are a must try. Fantastic service, a good place for groups as they cater to all dietary requirements.
Super yummy! We ordered two classics for take away: butter chicken and mango chicken, both really nice. We’ll definitely be back. The order was ready very fast. Nice staff.
Great tasty food and also great service. Nice to have a healthy option for Indian food. Chicken tikka pieces are a must try. Can’t wait to go again!!!!
Friendly staff, great atmosphere and wonderfully fresh simple food!! Vegan and vegetarian options are great and easy to identify on the menu. My partner is a lover of all things spicy and Indian and he was a little suspicious about the food initially – worrying that healthy might mean bland – halfway through he commented that this was the first Indian meal he had eaten where he felt like it was light and the ingredients were high quality and fresh – and by the end he declared he would definitely be back!! Good wine list too – our experience was a great one and we will definitely be back for more! Thank you 🙂
It was a busy Saturday night for It’s Mirchi. Just about every table was taken and we were glad we made a booking. We were pointed to our table. After quite a few minutes we asked for menus as there was no sign of them arriving. After ordering, we waited quite a while for the food. The food arrived in two batches. The child meal was missing but we were promised it would arrive soon. The waiter reappeared and informed us there was no kid’s fish left. This seemed like a weird time to be informed of this. We asked for the nuggets. They were out of stock as well. The only items available were curries and for a child that hates any spice! Our meals were on the table. We agreed to their mildest curry – the mango chicken. Luckily it arrived quickly and was tolerated okay. We were told we wouldn’t be charged for it. The barramundi moilee came with a soft, delicate sauce and was very tasty. The malai kofta was delicious and my favourite of all the meals we ordered although it probably looked the least appetising. The eggplant masala was baffling. The eggplant was cooked down to a creamy consistency but the tomato-based sauce completely lacked flavour. I couldn’t work out how they managed to make such a bland dish from eggplant, onion and tomato. It wasn’t finished with coriander as promised and just wasn’t worth eating. The garlic naan and Pappadums were all delicious. The child’s meal had not been taken off the bill and it was lucky we checked. I hope this place sorts out their disorganisation as the food was mostly good. For now, I won’t be rushing back.
