Give it a miss…. After driving past many times on our way to bribe we finally visited the sundowner for lunch over easter. The place was older styled but staff were friendly and to our surprise business was quiet as a mouse. My husband and I ordered steaks and a kids meal for our son, but were disappointed. The promised 200g rump was lucky if it was half that size, meat itself was of low quality and not cooked to direction properly. The final kick in the pants came when it was time for our son to play in the playground. Filthy like you cannot imagine, it very obviously hadn’t been cleaned in months. It was so disgusting I couldn’t let him play in there, so as a result we left pretty quickly. Won’t be back again…

Adequate. After visiting the nearby Abbey Museum and discovering all they had was sausage sizzle I decided to find somewhere better for lunch and the Sundowner fitted the bill. The menu is dominated by reef and beef. There is nothing vegetarian on the board apart from the salad bar, which is average and provides the standard choices of potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad and individual fresh ingredients. I chose this as I wanted a light and healthy lunch and I was happy enough with it. There are plenty of kids’ options, which all come with a drink and ice cream and are very good value. The kids fish and chips came with whiting which was probably 70% crumb and 30% fish and a bit dry but my son enjoyed it nevertheless. The Sundowner is nothing fancy. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit but it seemed popular with the locals. If the steak is good that could be a reason to go.
