I’ve always loved mondos! It’s just a relax place to sit back enjoy the best view in Cairns and have some delicious food and drinks. Dharshi the head chef has been here forever and any of his classics on the menu are great. Last Saturday night we had the chicken Fajitas (better then any I’ve had in the USA or Mexico) and the mondo barbecue! As always the food was awesome. I’ve had other dishes over many years like there Thai curry noodles, Cajun calamari. You really can’t go wrong with there menu. The only disappointing thing about the place is there’s absolutely no table service. You have to cue for every drink and your food too. If they had slick table service here it would be one of Australia’s best places. Bring on a tipping culture in this country and we wouldn’t have to go cue for our good and drinks!
Everyone we met raved about Mondo’s and so we decided to give it a try. It’s location is perfect and faces the marina which is especially lovely if you are sat in the shade on a pleasant afternoon. However, we ended up at Mondo’s one evening and very hungry. The place was very busy and it took a good 40 mins to get our order. I was looking forward to a nice flavoursome Thai nice curry but I saw was a gloopy and not very tasty mediocre one. My husband ordered the Sri Lankan veg curry and whilst his meal was slightly better, it was a bit too sweet for our liking and very average.
