A Tuesday morning visit to SSC for a spot of brunch was rather disappointing. Positives – menu was small, but covered all the mainstays of a cafe breakfast. The coffee was great. Food was reasonably priced. However, when asked if the cafe had bread other than ciabatta, the waitress launched into an in-depth line of questioning as regards why I didnt like ciabatta, with the strong implication that I was being fussy. Despite it being a Tuesday morning, with few other patrons, our food took quite a while to arrive. Oddly, patrons are not given the code to the gate allowing access to the toilet, having to meet staff out the back, which was extremely inconvenient. The best way to describe this establishment is… …odd. There are much better places in Cairns to enjoy a brunch!
I had been recommended Smith St Cafe by a couple of people so tried it out for Saturday brunch. The place was relatively busy so we seated ourselves and got our own menus. Menu only had like 4 options so fairly restrictive for choice but we both ordered eggs bene, mine with salmon and BFs with ham, along with green tea and an iced coffee. Our drinks were brought out promptly, the ice coffee was quite different with a squirt of honey but surprisingly yum! Our food came out soon after but was served in paper boxes not on plates which was not great. While the food looked great, both were luke warm and eggs were overdone. Loved that it was served on a croissant and it had potential to be great but was let down. The place was really cute with cool decor and the staff were friendly but probably wont be back until the food gets an upgrade
Went here with some colleagues… Coffee was pretty ordinary, as were the food options and service. There seemed to be unnecessary confusion with our drinks, with a number of re attempts needed to try and get them right. I’m not sure why this was an issue given that aside from our table, there was only one other table dining at the same time. When we complained, we were met by one particular staff member looking at us as though we were high. Don’t think I will be returning in the near future…
Good food and coffee. Pretty good atmosphere for a place on a main road. Catered for gluten free well. Service was a bit slow and inattentive.
I don’t know about you but I reckon this is the best coffee in Cairns. After my first sip, I had to tell the barista how wonderful my soy latte was. Perfect…
Great lunch and coffee. Food made in house. Great find just off Sheridan St.
