Best Gnocchi – melts in the mouth. I purchased some of the frozen gnocchi to make dinner tonight. Was the best gnocchi – very impressed. So lovely and soft, just melted in the mouth. Can definitely recommend Pasta Al Dente. Wil be back to try more varieties.

A Sad day is coming. Henri and Anna are closing up the West End shop and will be running the business out of their daughter’s Capalaba shop. Business in the West End has been on the decline since a lot of the engineering hub has reduced in size in the area. The business offers great pasta – second to none and will be missed for the truly local – like mamma used to make pasta.I wish them all the best. A sad day for West End
You have to try the Sand Crab Lasagne. It’s my favourite. Great dish to take over for friends & family also.
Pasta al Dente – South Brisbane. This is one place in which you could get wrong impressions from the first look from outside. A glance in might make one think that this is like a specialised cafeteria, having food meant for being on the run. I would be lying if I said that that impression was not in my head for some time; it was not until I went here that it changed, this place is fantastic. The vibe is more like a speciality grocer – Italian nonetheless – with all sorts of posters up concerning pasta, Italian cuisine and the country of Italy (my favourite was an article saying that a high-carbohydrate diet is the best diet you can do). It has bright lighting and is far from pretentious in presentation. The space is ample for the diners and there must be a big kitchen out the back. This is nowhere where you would go to impress someone on a first date or have a business meeting mind you; it does promise and deliver wholesome and authentic food though. Perfect for a meet-up with a friend, especially on a work day to make it quick (which I am sure is a good number of the clientele). Their menu is a rotating one, so what you can order depends on the day of the week. A few options are available regardless. I went here on a Friday where their choices were ham & mushroom fettuccine (available everyday), Queensland seafood fettuccine, spirali with meatballs and spiralli with cheese-balls. I honestly had a hard time making up my mind, so I asked the cook working there what she recommended. She had the Italian enthusiasm for her food and was going into some detail about what each one was like the meatballs were beef and the seafood fettuccine was spicy. Upon hearing about the seafood fettuccine I interjected that I do like spicy food, thus the seafood fettuccine ended up being my choice. Also, to give it a fairer critique I also requested a tiramisu and a cappuccino. After making the request, I was beckoned to take a seat. This is where it got more optimistic. It was a few minutes which meant that they must cook the pasta fresh – maybe even the sauce, though some pasta sauces do improve from being left over to simmer in the ingredients. Then, I was off to work with my lunch complete with dessert. It absolutely exceeded expectations. The seafood fettuccine came in a slightly tomato-based sauce. The spiciness of it was enough to make my lips tingle while eating it. They cooked the pasta perfectly. There was also a generous amount of prawns in it and maybe there was some barramundi as well. It was filling and certainly enough for a serve for lunch. I did have some doubts about seafood pasta from a cheap place, especially if it were the same price as the other choices. It is safe to say that they were all quelled. It was rare for me to ask for a straight cappuccino – often it is double-shot. This was pretty good; they frothed the milk very well and used a mild blend for their mix. It would make a great finisher with biscotti after a pasta meal here. To finish off the meal, I went and had the tiramisu. It was quite good, with a good all-round mix of cake and custard and a lovely little chocolate top (though that mostly came off with the lid). There was both a taste of espresso and liqueur in it. For a takeaway version, it was hard to ask for a much better or much more authentic dessert. It does not matter if it is a Friday or another day of the week; this place is a must to go to. I certainly will return regardless.
Everyone should go at least once. This is the kind of place that makes paying $20-$30 for a lesser pasta really irritate me. Any time I have a day off during the week I stop by this place and get something for lunch or dinner. Perfectly cooked fresh pasta. Amazing sauces. Lovely people. If you get there at 1130 the freshly baked ciabatta loaves are still warm too… excellent for soaking up pasta sauce.
Delicious. This was my favourite lunch hangout back when I was still in college. Everything was fresh and delicious. Their menu change everyday. I totally loved their Vegetarian Lasagna. It was yummiest I have ever tasted. Unfortunately, they only open lunchtime on weekdays so I have never been able to be back.
