Always a fan of donuts, I was quite keen when I heard about the opening of Brooklyn Donut & Coffee Co, up at Westfield Chermside. Luckily for me, I was able to send my recon unit to venture up north and scope it out for me without having to personally attend. There were about half a dozen variety of donuts on display, flavours vary day to day and price point ranges from $4.90 for the OG to $5.90 for other flavours. Peanut butter cookies and Brooklyn Brownies were also for sale.
Was super excited to try them! Haven’t had boston creme donuts in like forever so went straight for it! The custard was good.. but the donut itself.. meh. Dunno how to explain. Is it made with brioche? Maybe it’s too big and too cold? The dough seems to be rich with butter, but when butter is cold.. well.. it kinda makes brioche dry, and i think that’s what’s going here. Never had a good brioche based donut though. I use KK as the standard for donuts, and this wasn’t better. Not by a long shot.
As a person that likes donuts, I think this is the best place for getting donuts. From the day that I tried donuts at this place, I can not go to other stores for buying donuts. I wish they had more stores in Brisbane.
Beautiful looking doughnuts with plenty to choose from. Price is a little steep and the doughnut itself was pretty average it wasn’t very soft/yeasty/fluffy and was more cake-ish. Would love an improvement in the dough recipe.
