Stopped by this little place after breakfast over the road. Needed more caffeine so opted for a small 6.5oz takeout. There was no extra charge for the double shot & that coffee just packed flavor. Smooth & rich & even looked good after removing the lid

Super cool menu options – from bagels to coffee pops! So delicious and very friendly staff. The creativity at the store is amazing. I can never go past the creaming soda pop!

It’s not bad, but the location is in an obscure place. The popsicles are nice and refreshing but I’m not sure if it’s worth the trip for me here. I got the cappuccino pop which tastes exactly as it sounds. It’s basically your caffeine needs from a coffee on a stick which is a big check in my books.

This gem is tucked away just off Sandgate road but worth searching for! Another great hole in the wall coffee shop. They have a cute outdoor seating area for dine in but I just stopped for a coffee. I was so excited when they offered my favourite size 6.5oz (smaller then your regular small coffee which is 8oz). The staff were friendly and the coffee was pretty good. They are known not only for their coffee but their ice creams which I am yet to try! Can’t wait to go back thebasicbalance.com

Just across from Clayfield College, Queen of Pops offers seating on their small outdoor deck or their AstroTurf just next to the white picket fence. Popping in during the school holidays meant it was pretty quiet, but I can just imagine all the parents and kiddies getting their before/after school fixes here. Service was wonderful, with my server offering to bring my coffee and sandwich out once it was ready. The sandwiches are made offsite, so no changes can be made to them. The gingerbread pop made for a great afternoon snack, though the part attached to the popsicle stick did prove a bit difficult to eat. Looking forward to coming back to try out their popsicles. Open early Monday-Saturday. Street parking available~

You can just see the shop front if you head down Sandgate road in the right direction. It’s just off that busy road, and in the evening, the neon sign makes it easier to see (not that it’s open then). It is a chic little setup, with cookies and a few pastries displayed at the counter, and a copper coloured coffee machine. I think it was mostly planned as a takeaway, with just a few seats off to the side al fresco. There is Astroturf and nice table decor though. There is a food menu, but we only looked briefly, as they are better known/promoted for their coffee, and particularly the coffee pops. Hence the name, Queen of Pops.. The price of a non-pop coffee is a bit higher than average, and with 50c extra for soy (which I object to cafes doing in general as soy is no longer something exotic and costs no more than dairy milk), it’s probably pitched at the real coffee aficionados. There are a few pop options, including cappuccino, long black, hot mocha, and chai latte. I considered the chai latte, but wound up with the mocha. Coffee and chocolate should be a reliable mix.. At $6 a pop (ha), you’re hoping for more than an average icey pole. Double ristretto in every pop, the white, black, and copper packet said. It did indeed turn out to be richly flavoured. Quite nice, not too sweet, chocolatey and coffee-y. There were a few lumps in it though, so perhaps they need to work on their mixing. Still, I expect they’ll do well come summer. elsewherebriefly.com
