The fame of Marzi Weber’s apple strudel reached us before anything else: “It’s so light! Marzi’s husband finely slices all the apples for the strudel by hand,” a friend tells me. Named after both its owner and its most famous food item, Marzi’s Café Apfelstrudel brings a touch of Vienna to the Gold Coast in a most unlikely place: Coombabah Plaza. Late morning on a week day, the tiny shop is quiet enough to have a chat. Very simply laid out, there’s nothing to look at besides Marzi, dressed in traditional Austrian attire and a beaming smile.
