We have been staying here for four days relaxing in Port Douglas. The rating is a mix of our combined food experiences. Non food wise, this hotel, while lacking some soul, does have an amazing beachfront location (5/5), and a series of incredibly gigantic hotel pools (5/5), that include man made beaches, pool bar, waterfall, deep and shallow areas, cabanas, etc. The breakfast buffet is a very high standard (4.5/5), go for the spanish omelette! Plenty of pastries, great fruit selection, awesome poolside seating, barista coffee! Whilst we haven’t eaten dinner here yet (too many great choices in town) we did have lunch by the pool, but the 1hr wait for a plain cold over priced toasted sandwich with fries has nixed us wanting to do that again (2/5). An overlooked highlight is the funky bar area that is usually quite empty, where one can get a cocktail or drink. (4/5).

It’s a bit dated but still the epicentre of Port Douglas. Now part of the Starwood chain it was first built by Christopher Skase in the 70’s. Large rooms means plenty of space for couples or families. Heaps of pools and lounging areas to soak up the sun. If you don’t like pools the ocean is right next door. 4 mile beach – its a nice walk. They do a very good seafood buffet on Friday and Saturday nights. Not just seafood – plenty of other meals like lamb, pork, pasta and a chicken curry. Very filling. In general the food and beverages are overpriced – especially meals or room service. Many ‘cold’ meals returned during our stay. Maybe it’s a long walk from the kitchen to some rooms but there should be no excuses. Probably better value if you can eat out. It’s hard to imagine what the area of Port Douglas would be like today if not for the vision of Mr. Skase.

Terrible. $250/head Xmas lunch seafood buffet. Absolutely shocking. Won’t put everything here as I am writing a formal letter of complaint. But avoid avoid avoid.

My husband and I went to the seaford buffet ona Friday night. We were so disappointed. The food matched the ’80s interior. Needs a facelift – the restaurant carpet was so old and the glass windows looking out to the lagoon were sooo dirty. Food was average. It was a shame.
