Hands down my favourite place in Mackay for dinner. Amazing food, great prices and the friendliest staff you will ever meet. I would recommend this to anyone.
The service was ok. Once directed to the table I sat down and was handed a filthy menu with frayed corners. Upon ordering the waitress didn’t understand what I was ordering and insisted on using the numbers in the menu as a guide. Looking on to them attending other tables I found out why due to the questions being asked by other patrons.I ordered the tonkotsu ramen with a serve of tempura prawns and a miso soup. The prawns were served hot with a sweet soy dipping sauce. Regrettably they were over battered and was closer to fish and chip shop than I would have liked. The miso soup was quite weak but was likely deliberately due to the odd taste to the uninitiated. The ramen was served with pork belly which was rubbery with hard fat. Not the soft buttery fat you would come to expect to fall apart in your mouth. After letting it soak for the duration of the meal it was as hard as the moment it was served, not pleasant. Consider a different cut of meat or a longer cooking time to soften it properly. The broth was ok but nothing special.Noodles were tender and pretty good.Condiments:Pickled sushi ginger.Corn.Red onion !?!Soft yolk egg.Fried shallots.Spring onion /scallions.This is a rural town, albeit a fairly large one, on the up and up given the new restaurants popping up. I Compare it to Albury/Wodonga or Shepparton. As you can guess I’m from Victoria but that’s no reason that this couldn’t be a gem, I’ve been to plenty of country towns that have them. I’ve had kick-ass new Orleans shrimp in Geelong, amazing Indian in Shepparton and the best Thai in recent memory in Wodonga. My stomach was full but it could have been better. The only real disappointment was the meat.I spoke to the owner after the meal who seemed to appreciate the feedback.
The food tasted ok but the portion size of the don buri salmon was far too small to be considered a reasonable lunch, especially for $17.00. It also had no vegetables as was stated in the menu
Mackay finally has bubble tea and it’s fantastic bubble tea as well ❤️ This place has a great ambience and atmosphere and the food was delicious!
