A massive disappointment. No restaurant area so you are part of the loud, dirty, stinky backpacker bar. Terrible service, unhelpful staff. Didn’t think you could stuff up Mexican but they did. My partner ordered the enchiladas so they said they would make up something special. Turns out it was a ‘salad bowl’ basically cruddy lettuce, sour cream and some tomatoes. No meat, rice, guacamole or flavour! When we brought this to their attention (politely of course) they were rude and condescending, treating us like children. Please do not make the same mistake we did.

Are you kidding me?. Man1 got it right – the girls who work there are lovely and attentive, and that’s the only good thing about the place. I assume they are backpackers, seeing as La Cocina is actually just a part of Birdees; I’ve been to a past incarnation of that floor when it was just a bar (or I just didn’t notice the food then). The food was very average and took way too long to arrive. I’m glad I had a daily deal voucher because the menu was also overpriced for what it was. Do not recommend. Won’t be going back.

I also forgot to add the drink specials are amazing! $4 margaritas on Thursdays!!! They taste amazing as well. Truly great value. $10 jugs of beer is insane! And back to the food, I am actually really critical of Mexican food, having eaten it growing up so often, and although the ingredients aren’t always necessarily what Mexican cooks would use, the ingredients used come together to make a nice authentic flavour. They even came with a lime garnish, which I thought was fabulous.04 Nov, 2011I really enjoyed my meal here! My partner thought the ketchup/tomato sauce tasted cheap, but my El Cerdo (shredded pork, NOT pork belly) taco and fries/chips were really good! My partner ordered the chicken taco and fries/chips and he enjoyed his as well. I thought for the price maybe the food would be substandard, but I am pleased to say the food was surprisingly delicious. I wish the backpacker meals could have a second taco with the fries, but the meal included a drink, so it was quite a nice value. Might go there again tonight!

Excellent Service. Got a Scoopon voucher which comes with a jug of Sangria, 2 tacos, 2 mains and 2 dessert. The ‘restaurant’ is a back packers pub. At first, they told us that we have to order at the counter but because we have a voucher, the lady took our order at the table. The food and drinks were ok but not great.Service was excellent! The waitress was very friendly and polite. It was like silver service! We’ve ordered pork belly and baby Barra for mainsPork belly was juicy but the crackling was a bit chewy.Baby Barra was cooked just right. For dessert, the Mexican fried ice cream looked very pretty but the spices made it taste abit like KFC.If you don’t like loud music, go there early because at 8pm, they turned up the music and it was super loud. In conclusion, the food doesn’t really taste like Mexican, the restaurant is like a run down canteen, but service from that waitress we had was 5 stars!

Bad bad bad !! Baby barra was deep fried and so salty. Pork belly crackling was chewy and looked liked it had been blow torched and again very salty. The moment we walked in i felt dirty – tables were sticky – I didn’t want to touch anything.

Beautiful food, great atmosphere. Wonderful food, friendly service, good atmosphere (although a bit windy). Will eat there again!
