Went to happy boy today for lunch, I ordered the red braised pork with steamed rice which was very nice. The pork belly was extremely tender and had great flavour. The place is modern and has a nice layout, definitely keen to revisit to try more items off the menu.

I was always going to be skeptical of any venue serving Chinese cuisine outside of South Brisbane. Ive come to know and love the price, portions and undeniable palatability of our beloved cheap and cheerful venues within my local sunnybank region. Happy boy however, took me to a place where I was able to appreciate the finer touches and justify the extra $3-$4. The quality of produce is undeniable. The textures and complexity within the dishes spoke of well thought out flavor profiles that combined western technique with modern Chinese flavors. Some would say that this type of venue takes away from the authenticity of Chinese cuisine and although I would somewhat agree, in this case I feel it has been done elegantly and right on brief. At the end of the day its all about listening to your customer and supplying a demand. Happy boy only needs to change its name to happy boys and girls because that is exactly what it delivers. Will be back to keep working through the menu. Recommend only to those open to challenging tradition and enjoying lifes smaller details.

Excellent. Delicious contemporary Chinese food, really well done. The service is extremely fast & efficient, the space is big & contemporary, quite beautiful under the lights of the big tree outside.

We booked a table for four a couple of hours before arriving and lucky we did- this place is really popular. Large tables set up outside under the large trees covered in fairy lights. Its a bit more industrial looking inside this Asian restaurant. We were seated and given menus and water. Wines by the glass are displayed above the counter and other drinks are on the menu. We selected a lot of food as it all sounded delicious- it was. There were vegetable spring rolls- crunchy and tasty. A seafood omelette was huge and served with a chilli style salsa. Prawn and pork wontons served in an XO sauce disappeared as soon as they arrived. Crab bun was next and received a rave review! Seafood fried rice which was a generous portion and a beef stir fry with rice noodles was given the thumbs up. Finally the broccolini with black beans and butter tasted so good and went well with the steamed fish in chilli broth- the highlight dish for me. Service was friendly and quick. Well priced and very well cooked food. They are opening a cocktail bar next door soon so a place to have a drink before dinner or while you wait for a table!
