What an experience.Couldn’t get over this tucked away gem. From the front door, to the polished beautiful interior, to the great service and delicious this place didn’t disappoint :)Priding themselves on local produce from wine and ingredients (including their own garden), the food speaks for itself.I really enjoyed the Duck & Pork Sausage Rolls, that flaky pastry was so nice. And when you get to dessert, get all of them :)Can’t wait to try their breakfast foodieadam.com
A near-perfect breakfast experience. Beautifully presented food and the best free range bacon I’ve had in Brisbane, personable staff, a gorgeous and highly instagrammable setting, excellent housemade hollandaise, cutlery that actually cuts proportionate to the texture of the sourdough served, a playlist I wish I could find on Spotify and solid coffee in well-sized duralex. Apart from a more effective salt shaker I don’t know what more you could want from breakfast?
Just ok, but over priced. Staff a bit vacant, had to wait ages to order and there was only 4 people in whole place. Building is lovely and food was ok but I am staying in adjoining hotel and wont eat here tomorrow. Not a good thing when glass is empty for over 30 mind and no one offers you another 🙁
About a month ago an out of town friend and I popped into Kennigo Social House to try out their breakfast menu. I walk past this place fairly regularly and have to admit, prior to the renovations and building of the hotel next door, I’ve never noticed it before. An old, traditional Queenslander has been successfully transformed into a modern day version, maintaining the best of the original beauty with a very modern feel. I’m a pretty unadventurous breakfast eater, especially with a hangover so of course I chose the big breakfast – eggs (I went with scrambled), mushrooms, tomato, bacon, sourdough and sausage. No complaints with the meal generally, loved it. Highlight and lowlight was the sausage. Highlight was the sausage itself, both look and taste indicated good quality meat and there was enough fat to keep it juicy, delish. Lowlight was the knife, very picky I know, but it was a butter knife with a (blunt) serration – I find good quality sausages tend to have the thicker casing and I had a lot of trouble slicing it. Another issue was the plate, it was beautiful but the edges were lipped as if it were a really wide bowl which again made it a bit difficult to cut up the food, didn’t have enough room. In the scheme of things, very minor issues! My equally hungover friend went for the eggs, bacon and mushrooms and she too enjoyed it. Breakfast on the Saturday we were here was a bit quiet, it seemed we were the only people there who weren’t staying at the hotel next door but I look forward to going back and trying their lunch and dinner menu. Spring Hill is so central but has limited options when it comes to dining, and you tend to head into the City or Valley so it is great to see places like this popping up in the suburb. Service was great, and between bites we were fairly quiet, not a lot of conversation as we were far too busy looking around and noticing the stunning details in the building. High ceilings, wraparound verandah, woodwork, brickwork, stained glass (with the name ‘Irene’ – had us intrigued as to who she was!) and an impressive looking kitchen. We left with a ‘When I win the Lotto…’ conversation…
