Went here for an early-ish midweek dinner. We didn’t have reservations but fortunately it was only a 15mins wait for a table. In the meantime, the staff offered us a seat outdoors, where we could start ordering small plates and drinks. We ordered:- puffed rice crisp of salmon larb: crispy, fresh and textural- soft shell crab bao: soft bao with crispy crab- kingfish tartare: very fresh, subtlely cured- braised lamb massaman: definitely one of the highlights; beautifully tender lamb with a rich and spicy massaman sauce- golden longtime bar of ginger parfait- yoghurt and tamarind mousse: immensely enjoyed both desserts; there was an innovative and delicious balance of sweet and savoury with plenty of different texturesVery friendly and efficient service. We sat at the bar and happily enjoyed watching the barman mix cocktails and the staff work studiously in the open kitchen. Casual ambience – loud, minimal lighting. Reasonable prices.Overall, an exceptional dinner experience – highly recommend the braised lamb massaman and desserts!
Really not convinced of the high average rating, our experience was rather sub-par compared with all the glowing reviews. First of all, the wait for a table was about 1.5 hrs, and then because we had 8 people, we were forced to get the $65 per person tasting menu. Problem was there were no details at all on what’s in the tasting menu, not even about how many courses you’ll get, so you didn’t know how to gauge the pace nor when the meal was coming to an end. There were plenty of food, the early courses were the best of the night, particularly the baos. The chicken one had a great smokey sriracha, fluffy buns, but the chicken was a bit like nuggets. The soft shell crab one was light & fresh with lime & lemongrass. There were a couple of salads which were alright, but should be accompanying sides rather then separate courses on the own. Then came 2 curries & a stir fry. They were the weakest link of the night. The beef was soft, but curry flavours were not soaked through the meat. The crispy pork belly stir fry seems to be mostly rice cake and hardly many pieces of pork belly. There was only one dessert, which was watermelon & panna cotta, ok but I’m not a big fan of panna cotta. The service was extremely rushed, aside from not much explanations about the food being served or what was to come, we also got serve a big round of attitude from one of the waitress. Overall, the food was nice, but not the best Thai in town. Neither that nor the service was worth the extremely long wait.
