Visited Rock Salt on two occasions over 2 years and both times I was able to leave satisfied. This is definitely one of the more decent restaurants in the Gladstone area.On my most recent visit I had the Mud Crab and Chili ravioli for the entre and it was superb. The ravioli tasted fresh with a nice blend of herbs and topped with shaved parmesan. I didn’t taste the chili until the very last bite but I did not notice it missing and forgot it was there. For the main I picked the lamb shoulder. For my personal taste it was very salty but otherwise excellent. The lamb portion was fairly generous and very tender.Admittedly I did not enjoy the rocket and beetroot salad. It seemed to be heavy on the dressing which made the dish rather oily, and unnecessary I felt due to the already very strong flavor of the roasted beetroot.Would happily come back should I visit Gladstone again. I notice that the menu did not change much or at all in two years so would be nice to see some new items.

I found the service here very tangential, in terms of communication with one another. Despite having an abundance of staff, this was frustrating for a relaxed dinner when they over charged us for a meal that never arrived. Also, head waiter (manager who was older and tall) was officious to say the least. He was patronising, rude and generally unprofessional. He was bitching about us because we reacted to him pushing us to finish our meals before we were ready. All these occurrences affected our experience, so I think people should be aware of this. The other staff were actually really good and the food wasn’t too bad. But as a senior member of the team, he should be leading by example or pick another industry to work in.

After 10 months living in Gladstone and meaning to try this place as word of mouth was good, so I finally made it to breakfast with a friend. Had the Parmesan toast, gnocchi and poached eggs and eggs Benedict. Was delicious, quick and served by friendly staff. I look forward to trying lunch or dinner there sometime soon.

In Gladstone for a business trip and after reading some good reviews, chose Rock Salt for dinner. The halloumi with bread and avocado salsa was a lovely light dish. Perfect for an entrée. In comparison to the starter, I thought the main (the chicken breast) was very average. The chips were nice and hot while the chicken itself was about room temperature. It was a bit of a disappointment. The flavours were great, the dishes had potential but the meals definitely need some improvement to make them more than just OK. Maybe I should have skipped dinner and gone straight to the dessert haha
