Blue orchid does the best Thai in caloundra. We normally order takeaway but the few times we have dined in the service is great. Their Pad Thai is spot on and the Thai curries never disappoint.
Massaman mouse! The worst thai dinner experience I have ever had and completely overpriced! The staff were friendly enough, the craft beer was good and the vegetable spring rolls were okay but that are the only positives of our dining experience/nightmare. After the entrée, my partner and I had our attention drawn to the two neighbouring tables who were pointing at the window next to our table (where there were green plants). Next minute: there was a mouse who had its cheeks and little rodent paws pressed against the window. I felt physically ill and did not want to eat our mains but my partner convinced me to try as the mouse was outside and we were paying so much money (completely overpriced for such a standard thai restaurant). In hindsight we should have just walked out, but I’m not sure if that’s legal?? We ordered the special massaman beef curry which was about 5 dollars more expensive than the regular one on the menu, excited to try the ’15 hour slow cooking’ as stated on the menu. It was dry and tough and certainly did not melt in ones mouth. The spicy noodles with beef was spicy but so flavourless that I did not eat any after a few mouthfuls. I still had that sick feeling of the mouse watching me by the window sill!! My partner said he felt like he was eating massaman mouse instead of beef! I went home and made my own dinner. Don’t bother going here for the food. It is not worth your hard earned money and there are surely better thai restaurants elsewhere!! Also, the lighting was trying to be romantically dim, but frankly too dark that my partner couldn’t see me properly.
Great food – authentic, tasty and plentiful. Amazing service (catered for allergies in a really friendly and attentive way). Lovely environment. Would definitely go back.
