This place does a great coffee consistently. The can get busy, especially when the cruise ship is in, which means there can be a bit of a wait. Generally pretty good service, staff are always friendly. The do have some really nice sweets to go with your coffee, good choices for a reasonable price.

Let’s make a shitlist of places I never want to eat at again. No 1: Deer Sir. It’s one of few Portside digs open at sparrows, so is convenient when collecting passengers from the nearby cruise ship terminal. Having a simple menu, we anticipated a quick brekkie, prepared on the tiny short order grill. Coffee is adequate but I wouldn’t recommend ordering any cooked food. Unless you like watching your other half eat their basic fried eggs & bacon while waiting for your own meal which…after getting up & checking on, then waiting a good while longer…turns out to be an impenetrable rock hard bagel topped with haloumi, avo, sundried tomato & rocket & accompanied by an old, insipid, juiceless wedge of lime. Woeful execution of a good flavour combo, with service to match. Wounds heal, scars fade – but we won’t be back. Deer oh deer!

Shocking!!!! Hubby & I placed our order at 9.24 am. A big breaky & fruit toast + avo on toast + 2 coffees. It was hot, so I asked about water and was directed to the fridge – the waitress said she would bring glasses to our table. At 9.35 I asked a waitress cleaning another table if she could please provide some glasses, which she did . At this point, I witnessed the young barista leisurely chatting to a girl outside. Shortly afterwards, a different waitress let us know that there was no sourdough but they could substitute turkish bread – all fine. We asked this waitress if she could check on our coffees. Another 10 mins later, part of my order, fruit toast, arrived burnt. I sent it back. A further 5- 10mins passed. We were starting to get fed up & decided to get our money back & go elsewhere. At this point our coffees arrived & the barista said he would get the manager for us. The manager arrived with a partial refund. She seemed nice enough; so we thought okay we will see the experience out -it could only get better we thought. A further 5 – 10mins later & nothing had arrived. I went to the counter to be refunded the rest of our order. The manager stated we had already been refunded. Apparently they had completely forgotten about my husband’s big breakfast. In the end the manager shoved the the remaining refund in my hand (which was $5 short) & told to me leave. By far the worst eating out experience I have ever had!!!! The restaurant was not even 1/2 full. Perhaps they were busier earlier and the entire staff dropped the ball & lost the plot. No excuse though. It was all completely unprofessional and unsatisfactory. don’t bother! My rating is really zero but the app only allows you to register one.

The coffee here is usually unsurpassed.Keep up the good work. When a passenger ship is in at Portside the place ( and everywhere else ) gets busy but usually it’s friendly service with a smile .

The staff were really friendly and the breakfast that I ordered was delicious. The food portions are quite large and couldn’t finish everything on my plate so you not only do you get quality for what you pay but also quantity.

Really slow and poor customer service, couldn’t handle the amount of customers they had

Great food, average coffee. Would I return? YesGood: Uncomplicated tasty foodBad: Bitter coffeeHad Sunday breakfast at Deer Sir.Between us we had avo on toast with lemon, avo on toast with hummus and dukkah fried eggs, berry smoothie and coffees. Both breakfasts were great, not over complicated just good ingredients – Yum! The berry smoothie was also really good, not overly sweetened. Only downside, despite the AllPress beans, was the coffee – it was bitter.
