Ol? Oh no. Hubby and I headed here recently after attending a book launch at a local bookstore. Admittedly it was midweek so it was quiet, but sadly there was no atmosphere at all. The host seemed in a rather bad mood, and after hearing him abuse his waitress, I decided I wouldnt come again, simply as a gesture of solidarity. The food is typical tapas-style that you get here in Aus. The usuals are on the menu patatas bravas, calamare, croquetas, paella, meatballs, jamon and so on. Nothing unusual, nothing terrible. Just not very inspiring. Hubby said he loved the meatballs so that was a plus. My calamares also had quite a few baby octopi; no issue for me there, but the entire dish was incredibly salty. Sooo salty, even for this eater who adores salt! I was looking forward to the jamon, but it didn’t have as much flavour as I expected. I think on another night, when the host is happy and there is a crowd, this would be a fun place to hang out and nibble and drink. It is licensed, and serves Spanish sparkling and beers. sherryspickings.blogspot.com
Had Saturday night dinner at this Tapers Bar last week. Fortunately, I have made the booking otherwise it would be very embarrassing due to the fact that it was full house on that night. Ordered two glasses of Sin Alcohol – Virgin, two tapas of Spanish ham (Jamon Iberico & Paleta Iberico De Bellota) and a seafood paella (De Mariscos) to share between two of us. Honestly, those dishes of ham were the worst so far that I tasted in Australia. They were dried without depth of flavour. Compared to those that I had at the Allgeria @ Milton, it was far too much down. Well, it seemed that we had no luck again on the paella. There were limited seafood on the dish. I never had the mussels with such skinny meat inside. I do not like to compare it to the delicious paella that we had @ Simply Spanish in Melbourne. However, the paella that we had was much worse than the one @ Ole Southbank. I think the only thing impressed me was the non-alcoholic Sangria. Very disappointed dinner and definitely not worth for $110.00
We took advantage of the 4 Tapas & 2 House Drinks for $49 and the value was unbelievable. The waitress was very bubbly and helpful, and turns out it was her second week at the restaurant. The food was also fantastic, highly recommend the Mallorquina, flat bread with caramelised onions, goats cheese, pumpkin and pine nuts. The house special sangria was also delicious. Will definitely be back!
